We love Emerald Beach. The place is spotless. The sites don’t include lots of real estate, but they are clean and easy to access/egress. If road noise bothers you, that could be a problem (until you walk down to the water of Navarre Sound!) We’ve stayed here “in” and “out” of season and it doesn’t matter-it’s always great. The staff is friendly and helpful. There’s a pool, laundry, clubhouse and pier among other amenities.
We stayed at Myrtle Beach State Park in a travel trailer. Our site was spacious and was fairly separated from others by trees and brush, in typical state park fashion. Our site had full hookups, which was also a plus. We weren’t there in summer, but we could see how getting to the beach isn’t super convenient. We could also see where the beach might be crowded during peak times.
We also visited Myrtle Beach proper a couple times. We had lunch one day and explored the city. On another day, we attempted to go for an early dinner but returned to the park because the area (the main road) seemed sketchy. It wasn’t dark but there was activity that made us nervous.
We stayed at Distant Drums in a full hookup site for six nights while visiting Sedona and the Grand Canyon. The park was clean and super nice! The sites were spacious but pretty open (not much shade). We had a site that had a perfect sunset view every night. This resort is easy to get to from the interstate, but we weren’t bothered by road noise. There’s also a casino adjacent to the resort, if that’s your thing.
We stayed one night. The campsite we were in was spacious. The restroom and shower facilities were clean. There are plenty of hiking trails.
Be aware: the road inside the park has several up and down grades of 6-10%. In a couple of places there are switchbacks that make navigating a long rig difficult. Having said that, there were several large rigs in the campgrounds.
This park would’ve been a 5 for us had we not had trouble contacting them to get information about protocols for late check-in. We were never able to talk to anyone prior to arrival. When we left we talked to a ranger at the office and she was super nice.
We will be back, and hope to do more hiking in this very picturesque place!
We stayed two nights at Emerald Beach. It is convenient from I 10. This park is super clean and the staff is outstanding. We had an issue with our cable TV. Not a big deal, but they came promptly with a solution. The sites are a little tight, so if you value expansive space, you might not like Emerald Beach. If you want to be in a super clean park with great people and even better amenities and water views, then this is the place for you!
We stayed two nights while passing through Waco. Friendly people. Very clean, spacious sites.
We stayed at Albuquerque KOA for one night while on our way to AZ. We payed $112, which we thought was overpriced, even though we stayed during the Balloon Fiesta. The park was clean and well-maintained. It was in a safe location that was easily accessible from I 40. The sites were spacious and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
This is a great place to relax at the beach! It’s easy to get to and there is plenty to do. We stayed here “off-season” so it was a little quieter than it probably is normally. Our site had plenty of room although our RV is only 22 ft. There are hiking and biking trails galore. We only stayed one night while on our way to Arizona, but we will be back to enjoy this park for a longer stay!
