WE havnt been able to score our sweet spot again. This time we camped along the back edge, near RT 30. There had been some bear sightings recently so i was excited. Shady spot uphill from the car. no road noise really given the proximity.
Always packed, but always beautiful. Awesome access to the Catskill Escaprment trail from here.
we stayed here on a cross country adventure. We rolled in past dark, right before the bridge closed for the evening. The air smelt like poo, and there were bugs everywhere.
Never saw a buffalo, or an antelope for that matter. Saw a stunning sun rise had one of our first showers of the trip, and hit the road. set our tents up on asphalt. never swam in the GSL .
I love Hamilton County. The sunsets over lake Sacandaga are always different, and always beautiful! You can spy the firetower on Pillsbury Mountain from the shores, and while the lake can be a bit windy, it is lovely for a paddle! Nice facilities, awesome private beach, and a nice picnic area on the shore!
This is a great park, on a week day. The spots are much quieter, and the less people at that beautiful beach the better!!!
We got rained out!! Our site did have good drainage and ample tree cover so that helped. Easy access to buy firewood on the road into the campground.
Site # 103 is a secret oasis of magic. The lake itself in shallow and warm, with stunning views of Owls Head Mountain.
Ideal camping for the SARANAC 6ers.
Having BBQ and Ice cream within walking distance isnt too shabby either!
For hiking in and around the Phoenicia area this place is the BEST! An easy commute to town, and yet secluded and wooded. WIll be back many times!
We celebrated a birthday here with some week day camping. While week days reign supreme in the summer time, it held up to its rep of a beautiful campground with hiking trails and swimming! What more could you ask for.!
It was a haul out to the Little Pond Campground, but a lovely drive! We didn't get to see the resident family of bears that live at the head of the road, but we did get to see a beautiful bald eagle on Big Pond.
The bath houses are brand new and gorgeous. They are strict to their 10PM quite hour, and we appreciate that. However, the 6am child screaming was not pleasant.
We forgot our airpump, for out air mattress (glamping at its finest) The very kind caretakers allowed us to come into their basement and use their airpump! (we also went into town and bought a pump from The Storehouse!
Our site was perfect, it poured rain, but the grade worked will, no puddling! The access to Woodland Valley Stream provided the greatest relief from the heat, and the night time ranger was also sweet as pie!
easy check in, nice site but a bit crowded. we lucked out with no neighbors for night two of our stay. sites huddle the shores of Fish Creek Pond, local general store very close can provide anything you need. additionally, small food trucks come thru with snacks.
