My husband, two friends, and I road tripped all the way from Indiana to camp at Red Canyon Park. The views were so beautiful, they looked fake! The mountains were gracefully uplifting the sun as it shone down on the beautiful canyon. There were plenty of views to take in and sights to see. Absolutely no cell service for miles, dirt road to get to the site, and secluded area. Which is nice, if you’re into that. Haha, anyways, we had a fantastic time and hope to come back one day.
We stayed as a larger group on a non-electric site. The sites were sort of close together but the trees still helped provide a sense of privacy. There were clean bathrooms with running water a short walk away, didn’t attempt to use the showers. We could easily walk to the trails and we went fishing in the lake. It was mild and quiet the days we went in Mid-May 2020. 🙂 Beautiful scenery.
I love coming to the Shawnee forest to camp and hike. We have absolutely no signal there with MetroPCS and it is very refreshing. We took three separate cars and they have a two car per site rule, but they have a lot at the front to park extra cars in so it was no problem. The springs have fun and challenging trails to hike along, and if you go far enough there’s a nice spot to swim. It was disappointing to see quite a bit of litter in some places along the trail, but that is more of a reflection on previous guests than it is on the park, I think.
