Basic and Beautiful

We found Solitude when all the other campgrounds in the vicinity listed on The Dyrt were sold out and one of the owners recommended it. It’s nestled in between a soaring mountain and a hoodoo. The camp host Eric is most welcoming and helpful and FYI, is also the town Sheriff!! He asked if we wanted a fire & brought us a pile of beautiful wood at no charge. This is a basic campground with no bath house or toilet facilities so more designed for RVs. There are ATV & hiking trails all over with incredible views of the beautiful mountains.

Not a Good Experience

By far the worst run state park we have visited in our 70k miles of RVing. The greeter at the front gate gave us no directions & no map. We wasted an hour looking for the elusive Bennett Hill campground. Finally got a park ranger in the phone and he directed us back to town. Once we finally found our spot, we found it soiled with someone’s dog poop. Really? The one dump station for the whole park is across from the ranger station which means back tracking several miles. The spot we were in, BH02, is listed as electric only, but in fact has water as well. Just another example of how poorly run this park is. It’s very windy, dirty, lacks privacy and we definitely are checking it off as a one time visit place. Disappointing as we love to camp near water which is what drew us in.
