Good Spot for a Last Resort

We stumbled upon this campground when every other campground near Tettegouche was full by noon on Friday. About a twenty minute drive from the park. Great spot. There is more open camping near the office, but if you follow the road back past the office/bar there are about 10 more private, individual spots. Staff was incredibly friendly. The only downside is that the grounds seem to be primarily used for ATV folks, as there is a trail connected at the back of the grounds. There was some noisy riding around, but we were gone hiking most of the day so we barely noticed. Within 20 minutes of some great hikes. All in all, decent price point and saved our trip when everything else was full.

Little spot on the river

I enjoyed this little spot in early April. I wanted to be close to Banning State Park without the reservations. Early spring in Minnesota left us little cover between sites, but we were the only ones there. It would be difficult to see fellow campers in full blown summer. We camped at spot 4 right along the river. Picnic tables, fire rings, and a tent pad at every spot. Realistically, each site was only big enough for one tent. I was a little nervous that I wouldn't get my peace and quiet with the campground being so close to town but it did not disappoint!

Wonderful Little Backwoods Spot!

I visited Gulch Lake campground October of 2019. The leaves could not have been more beautiful. The outhouses were clean. There were only two other campers in the campground, perhaps given the time of year, because who could resist this spot? It's not actually on the lake, and can be difficult to find down an old rickety road, I would suggest getting there with plenty of light so you can locate the grounds. Not only is it connected to the North Country Trail but there is also a beautiful trail around Gulch Lake that is connected to the north side of the campground just past Spot 1. We spent all day hiking through the crowds at Itasca (about 15 minutes down the road) and learned that we had the best most secluded hiking right next door. I will be returning!

Beautiful views, exceptional facilities

This is a large campground, however given its proximity to so many great outdoor adventures and beautiful views, it was full by Friday afternoon. Your neighbors are close but there's cover to keep things semi-private. We enjoyed a primitive site, large enough for two tents, for three days. The drinking water was safe and the out house was clean. I would absolutely stay here again.
