We camped during the pandemic so the campground was first come first serve which worked out great for us as we arrived on a Friday afternoon and lucked out with a spot. There were only a handful left by 1:30pm so be sure to get there early especially if you want an oceanfront sure. Although we were up against highway 1, we could still easily see the ocean. Also, the highway was pretty quiet so it didn’t disturb us at all.

There isn’t any privacy with this campground as the sites are right next to each other without any bushes/trees in between them but most Oceanside campgrounds are like this. There is an outhouse per campground (three total) which wasn’t too gross or smelly since it got a lot of ventilation.

The trail/road to the beach access is a couple minute walk so super close.

We’ve stayed here quite a few times because it’s convenient/local. The campsites are small and close together but the campground has easy access to the beach (down a ramp). There are flushing toilets which is another plus. It’s right off a fast highway/street so be prepared to hear cars drive by. This is a very popular campground which makes it hard to reserve sites but if you get lucky enough, try to snag the most west spots because they have a direct ocean view.

We’ve camped here with my extended family many times. Mammoth is a beautiful area but they also have a lot of bears. You have to make sure you securely lock up your food and we even do our toiletries in the near boxes. I don’t think there has been a time where we haven’t seen bears while camping. Some sites are close together and others are big and spread out.

We’ve paddle boarded and fished on the lake. You can also hike up to nearby Lake George to fish/hike as well.

I’ve stayed here many times with my extended family because it’s conveniently located to the lake, usually no bears, and you can see many stars at night. Some sites have shade from trees but others (like ours) had no shade so it got very hot. The bathrooms were very clean but I think that was because of COVID-19. There are a few coin operated showers at the front entrance and campgrounds near there that I use a lot.

There is a beach but in the summer it gets VERY crowded.

We usually stay in the Mammoth Lakes area but changed it up and we are so happy we did. The tent sites are small with little to no shade but the beauty of Convict Lake was worth it. The only wildlife we dealt with were deer which is much better than bears (so many in Mammoth).

We enjoyed paddle boarding, fishing, and hiking around the lake.

We were very happy with our camp site which was a short hike to the beach and town to get ice. We live super close to this campground but finally decided to camp near us and were happy we did. I loved that there were many showers super close to our site. Will definitely be back.

Even though it said this was full online, we walked up on a Tuesday around noon in August and was able to snag a beautiful spot. I would recommend the sites that border the forest/mountains like 8E versus the spots in the middle because those are too close to each other. Our spot was pretty secluded and was happy to have it. There is a short walk to a swimming hole with a rock you can jump off or you can hang out at any part along the river that runs by the campground.

We got so lucky to arrive the first day that they were allowing campfires. There wasn’t any wildlife that we had to deal with, not even mosquitos! Perfect weather and a great start to our camping road trip!

A couple of spots opened up last minute so I was able to snag one and I’m glad I did. This was a campground located right on Carter Lake. We drove to the small swimming beach but could have easily brought our chairs and hung out on the lake at our campground. We had a campsite without any shade but luckily there was a cloud cover to protect us from the sun. Our site was 28 which was on the end which made it very big.

The only wildlife we had to deal with were frogs. My husband accidentally stepped on one which freaked him out. Make sure you watch your step.

We really enjoyed staying here for two nights and would recommend. We were pleasantly surprised to find out that there aren’t any bears in the area to worry about! My husband went looking for wood to burn around the campsites one night and unfortunately came a foot away from a rattlesnake. A neighbor saw one on his hike the same day so campers should be aware and careful.

We aren’t hikers but there are a couple of 1-3 mile hikes in the area that we enjoyed. The hike up the hill to the overlook is a must!

There are FREE hot showers at the lake too which we were so thankful for.

We had to stop last minute because another campground fell threw. The owner/manager was very accommodating and waited up for us to arrive. Since we were only staying for 14 hours, they put us in the day use area which was nice but there were soooooo many mosquitos. I guess that’s what we get for staying on a lake. The porta potties were just cleaned which was a pleasant surprise. They also have showers in case we needed them.
