Little less than a 4 mile hike. Takes about 2hrs hiking or 30 minutes running. Lots of spots to pitch a tent right on the beach with the waves crashing nearby. It’s magical. Most of the year you can have bonfires on the beach with beach wood too.
We came through on July 4 weekend late at night..so obviously it was brutal finding a free site. I imagine it is an amazing place to stay any other time of day, but our experience was just finding lots of full sites and tricky side roads off the main gravel road to throw up our tent. Would go back and try again!
Classic campground experience. Lots of trees and privacy, great, cheap spot to take it easy for the night. Picnic tables, fire pits, and lots of space to ourselves. We didn’t spend much time here, but it was great if traveling through the national forest!
One of the most beautiful spots I’ve camped. The road is very doable, gravel, but fine. After about 15-20 minutes from the start of the road on the Telluride side you’ll find the spot. We didn’t venture down the 4x4 trail after the main camping area, but the views were plenty wonderful right from there. No bathrooms, tables, or fire rings, but it’s worth it for the sunset and stars. Amazing, free place to camp.
Middle of nowhere, gorgeous little hideaway campground. Many sites with a sunset view, covered picnic tables, fire pits, and fantastic 360 views. Lots of sites too, had no issue finding a spot on a busy summer weekend. A little strange that they close the gates at 8pm..but other than that it was perfect for us! Highly recommended!
