Unfortunately, this campground got hit hard with beetle kill, resulting in little to no trees (and the ones that are there really are 'little' lol) so it seems pretty deserty.
However, if your plans are to just sleep there and not hang out all day, then I would highly recommend. The camp host Judy was WONDERFUL, and I wish we could've taken her with us to where we ended up staying. She was so helpful, KIND, and we found out she shares the same birthday with our almost 2 year old son.
Judy also claims to have the cleanest bathrooms of any campground, and she isn't lying. Those vault toilets look brand new!
Some highlights:
- plenty of trees, nice and shady
- some sites are close to the river/creek; you can walk right from your site through some trees and bushes and get to the water
Some lowlights:
- right on the bike path (could be a pro or a con though)
- right off the highway
- next to the highway on the other side is a fairly busy train track. Most of the trains that went by didn't blow their horns, but a few did, even as it was getting later in the evening.
Other points/advice:
- one pro about the bike path (for me personally) was that you are within walking distance to Winter Park. Once you get out of the woods though, it is all sun…
- if you buy firewood from the camp host, you have to load/stack your own wood. It is not already bundled. The host has you load a bin and whatever you can fit is considered a bundle. **PRO TIP** load the wood vertically ;)
- mosquitos were fairly bad, but they have also had a lot more rain than usual so take that as you will :)
Beautiful campground in a beautiful location! Wake up to Mountain Views in the distance. Quiet area, easy access. CLEAN, private showers-I enjoyed the fact that the showers weren’t separated men/women but that they were actual bathrooms with shower, toilet, and sink. They brought firewood to us, and were so friendly. Our site was big and had a nice fire pit.
It wasn’t too bad but our fire pit was basically a hole in the ground, the showers were kind of janky, the food was insanely expensive, and the firewood was expensive and hard to start.
My hubby and I LOVE it here. You aren't too close to your neighbors and you are surrounded by the beautiful mountains. There's always a great chance to see wildlife too. We have stayed here on two separate occasions and want to come back every year. We have seen moose and elk just yards away from our tent. When the sun goes down you can see millions of stars. Everything about this site is perfect.
