Very Comfortable - Lacked WOW

This is a very nice, quiet and quaint camping spot! We loved the wooded areas. The flat parking pads and hook ups! There’s nothing extra special here to make it a 5 star. I’d absolutely visit again!!…. But it’s not a bucket list spot!

The coolest thing is we did see a moose!

Amazing and close to town!

This spot is amazing! Views are great! Campsites are spaced out and have plenty of space. Camp hosts were good!

Our favorite thing was the proximity to town. All the views and feeling of being far away without actually being far away

Better Views than Telluride

Amazing location near telluride, worth the scenic drive!

I can’t believe people come all the way to Telluride and miss the views along the road out to this amazing spot!! Campground is right along the river (which is also nearby the road, but it’s not heavily trafficked). There’s also off road trails nearby that lead to amazing waterfalls.

Spotless restrooms. Drinkable water on site. Dump available for a small addition fee. The camp hosts were among the friendliness we’ve had.

We had the three group sites (18-19-20) and it was perfect. We had open views, the other sites are more in the trees, they looked amazing too. Sites are big, saw a variety of campers and even big rigs. Sites were pretty level and very easy to back into.

Highly recommend Trout Lake (10 mins away). Everything is very lush and green. We will definitely be back!

The only (kind of) negative is there is zero cell and internet. None whatsoever. Nearest service is a 10 minute drive into Ricco.

Perfect Stop Over Spot - Not a big destination

There was nothing wrong with this little spot (except for maybe the noisy highway) but there was nothing remarkable about it either.

Campsites were very well maintained, camp hosts friendly. Nice little lake and camp playground. But nothing to write home about.

Glad to have found this stop over spot and may even stay here again while passing through

Fantastic Family Find - But Pricey

This was an amazing campground. One of the rare truly lake front camp site. The water is warm and inviting. Definitely would stay here again! But be aware of a couple things

1) The Ride In - it is a BUUUUMPY ride in. Some people said they bent their stabilizers. After this trip we need new tires on our camper.

2) There is no Wifi - zero - zilch - nana. No cell service nothing.

3) It’s busy! It’s a great place, but it is definitely busy.

4) it’s pricy. Like double or triple the normal price of camp sites.

The pros:

1) the spaces are HUGE and not just the group sites, the spaces are almost double the size of most places.

2) this is one of the best water front camp sites that I’ve seen!

3) they are very dog friendly.

4) the camp hosts are very friendly!

Super Great Spot! Watch for ticks

This place was awesome, so close to The Badlands and a fun jumping off point. Facilities were maintained well and had a small town vibe. I do have to say we had ticks while we were there (which I had never had before) so watch out for your pups!!

Near Water with Plenty of Space

I’ve camped Green Mountain Res. three (or maybe four?) times before, this was probably one of my favorite spots. There is plenty of space between camp sites. View was amazing water was perfect (but super low) camp host was great. We had three cars, a camper and a tent and it didn’t feel cramped at all.

Excessively Harassed By Camp Hosts

If you like to have a nice relaxing time camping… don’t come here! Seriously! If you can… cancel and go literally anywhere else.

  • Do you camp with dogs?
  • Do you camp with Kids?
  • Do you camp with an RV?
  • Do you camp with more than 8 people?
  • Do you camp with a grill?
  • Do you like to NOT be micromanaged when you camp?

Then read on, Baby Doe is NOT the place for you in 2021.

First of all, you need to know are a family that camps with kids, and camps a lot! We are respectful camp neighbors. We have never been treated this way. (Please read my other reviews)

The camp host are Camp rule vigilantes. They don’t need a complaint or a “danger” to harass you. They are actively looking for things that no one is even complaining about, and they are enforcing rules that I’ve never even heard of.

Not only do the camp host have the extremely excessive camp rules posted on the tables (included in pictures), after you’ve arrived they come and ask you if you I’ve read the rules.

DOGS - They said if your dog is off leash, they don’t give you a warning, they consider the posted rules the warning, they only give fines. Also make sure you have an in-ground dog steak because they are enthusiastic about dogs not being tied to trees.

KIDS- Their posted rules include “children should never race bikes / shout throughout the camp site” … are you kidding me. So basically don’t bring your kids. The camp host were so aggressive about the other rules I was scared for my children to wander to far from our campsite. Our friend that had an older child was told to slow down when she was riding her bike.

RV - a friend in our group left their exterior lights on and sure enough the camp host came knocking. She started with “I’m not saying you’re breaking any rules but…” … long story short, he was asked to turn them off.

8 PEOPLE PER CAMP SITE - I’m not joking, they were trying to enforce 8 people per camping site. It was us and a couple families calmly hanging by the camp fire (no music playing) they told is we’re not supposed to have more than 8 people per camp site. The hilarious part about this is that the Ranger rolled by our campsite not even 5 mins before the host did and didn’t stop to say anything about it.

GRILL- Have you ever stayed at a camp ground that wouldn’t allow a charcoal grill because there’s “almost” fire ban?? Instead they recommend using the fire pit to cook. We stayed 6/18 and some counties are under a fire ban, Lake County where Baby does is located is NOT under a fire ban, but they still asked us not to use a charcoal grill.

QUIET-HOURS - at 9:52 they came to tell us that in 8 mins it’s quiet hours. Then proceeded to be ridiculously aggressive about it, despite us having ZERO complaints. We weren’t playing music, we were quietly hanging by the campsite.

I’d like to say the water was nice and the fishing was good but all of these positive things were overshadowed by being harassed by the camp host over non-issues.

Do your self a favor, find a better camp spot.

Please don’t take my word for it… people must be getting the memo because I’ve never seen so many empty camp sites! It was so hostile I’ve considered filing a formal complaint about how bad they were.

Good, Good’n’Busy

This is such a convenient spot to camp! Tons of people camp here. The lake is nice but also just as busy.

Easy to back in, electric.

Quaint Quiet Camp Ground

This camp ground seems so underrated. While it doesn’t boast views of the mountains as much as other places, it’s a great quiet place to get some lake time!

Sites are very easy to pull into/out of. We had electric hook ups. Camp sites are not super level, but there is plenty of space.

The lake is amazing. Super great for fishing /and paddle boarding.

Short Distance from Metro Area - Amazing Views and Water!

This is only about 90 mins from the front range and it’s amazing!

The views from most of the sites are phenomenal! And most sites have lake front views.

The beach is surprisingly not over crowded despite it being a full campsite.

The camp sites where a bit tight and open but that’s probably why the views were so amazing.

Facilities were all excellently maintained. And camp hosts even had fire wood for sale at the site.

Not to buggy when we went in June ( which as someone mosquitoes like that’s really important to me)!

Decent cell service for camping.

Great for SUP, and fishing.

The cons - while camp hosts are super friendly and maintain a great site, they were super lax on quiet hours. We were lucky enough to camp next to generator Jim who had his generator running all gosh darn night.

I was surprised with how much noise could be heard from the highway. It’s wasn’t disruptive but it wasn’t serene.

There aren’t many full hook ups, and the ones we saw with hook ups didn’t have great views

I’m not even proud of how much I loved this place

I’m a mountain girl! Like grab your back pack and hike in! Then we had kids and splurged on a camper… and now this place has me over here laying pool side… drink in hand, head over heels about glamping. Seriously I loved this so much. They have an amazing pool! Bowling alley, arcade, restaurant, bars (yes more than one!) they had live music, they have fishing, and dog parks, bike rentals, daily trash pick up from your campsite, firewood delivery, play grounds, golf carts… it is a little close together with out any trees of coverage BUT the pros far (FAR FAR FAR) out weigh that one con.

Great Spot with Lots of Neighborhoods

This camp site is a mile or so from the base of the Dunes and river. It’s a nice enough location but the camp sites feel pretty close together. There’s not many trees and such to make it feel like there’s much privacy.

The campsites are super sandy (obviously lol) and watch out for lots of prickly cactus. A portion of the sites are paved for RVs. It’s super tight to maneuver in and out with a camper.

Views are pretty amazing! But some sights have (a lot) better views of the Dunes than others. Besides birds we haven’t seen much while life but there are bear boxes at the camp sites

I wanted this to be FIVE stars, but it just wasn’t

This was on my camping bucket list for years! I was so excited to go, but, it wasn’t as amazing as I hoped…..

First you’re in RMNP which is, unbelievable to begin with… BUT Moraine campground is so small all the campers are right on top of each other, it’s not even peaceful.

We had an RV site, not hook ups, which isn’t a problem, but the site was so small and the road was heavily trafficked.

The rangers were on top of it, which, is their job, but when you’re there three days, and are approached by rangers three times when there’s absolutely nothing you’re doing wrong, it’s excessive. They job pop by to “check in” … ugh. Thanks mom!

The ups are the unbelievable scenery! We saw elk, and marmots, and Turkey and big horn sheep. The scenery is unmatched.

If I was to do it again, I’d stay in a fancy hotel in Estes.

Quiet Place in Nature

Super nice campground that makes you feel like you’re out in nature and in the mountains. Although there are tons of spots you are very well distanced from everyone. Views are great! Cleanest camp bathrooms we’ve seen all year! Onsite dump, most sites are pull through with Electricy, WiFi was good, I could even stream music.

Most trails inside the campground don’t allow dogs.

A Big Bunch of “meh”

This by no means is a bad camp site, but don’t add this to your wish list of destinations. The campsite themselves are very well maintained, and the camp hosts were very friendly.

The beach was highly disappointing because there was so much broken glass everywhere. I was terrified to even let my kiddos play for fear they’d cut themselves.

No shade or trees. Perhaps it was because we were near-ish the camp trash and I’m sure the time of year didn’t help, but it was fly-central. I killed at least a dozen the first night we arrived…. and it got worse from there.

The beach was pretty busy with campers definitely not a tranquil beach environment.

I liked that the campsites where spread out, it was disappointing how many houses surrounded the campground, and the nearby road wasn’t a nuisance, but it definitely didn’t help the feeling of being “in nature”

Easy to pull through with our camper.

Over all, it’s a solid three starts from me.

Great for Biking, Not much Else

If you’re a biker or have an ATV, this is your place! If you don’t… probably go somewhere else. We rolled in on a Thursday night, all the spaces were full, thankfully there’s a large parking lot near the entrance we boondocked there for the night, by Friday morning we were able to snag a spot as we watched people leave. TONS of cars rolled through all weekend looking for a space. There’s not much shade, there’s no great hiking trails. The campsite was clean and the campsites were plenty spaced out.

The camping spaces were off-road but accessible by us and our small trailer, but I honestly can’t say I’d do that road again. Larger campers would be probably doable, but pretty hard.

Spaced Out and Water is nice

Great campsite with plenty of space from neighbors. The camp host do an immaculate job maintaining, I watched them cleaning a site next to ours and they really care for the campground. Bathrooms are clean. The water is nice, a bit crowded with fishers and there’s a No Swimming policy. Electric hook up and flat parking for campers. It close to the road so you can hear traffic but it’s not too loud

Saw snakes, blue birds, chipmunks, cranes.

Views are great! Not over packed

This maybe my new fav close by spot! To to far from the metro area. It’s got gorgeous views, amazing (but cold) lake. Great for fishing, kayaking or paddle boarding. The starts at night are so beautiful. And the campsite is spaced out so you don’t feel like you’re on top of each other (which to me is super important!)

Best for Endless Reasons

I love this campground! We’ve stayed here twice before! It has pretty much everything! Lake access boat rentals, proximity to Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe… it’s always clean and friendly. I love that they are spaced out. In the age of streaming, I only wish the WiFi was better. We’ve camped here twice and can’t wait to come back. Even if it’s pricy it’s worth every penny!
