Primitive tent camping with spacious sites, RV and cabins too; friendly staff, small bathhouse and small gift shop; cute and earthy pub and grill with live music; offer rafting adventures and horseback riding.
The rafting trip was fun, but we took the double express trip which means you do the same ride twice in one day- I don't recommend this as I was bored the second round. Athough the check-in attendant was very nice, he "didn't get around to" chopping any firewood, so he sent me to a neighboring campground to buy some. Since bringing outside/foreign wood is not allowed, I was extremely annoyed (and hungry) when I had to stop at 3 different places to find/buy some. I will not be booking another stay here.
This clean and spacious campground lends itself to white water rafting enthusiasts, offering various guided trips down the New and Gauley rivers. The campground has its own hiking/biking trails and zip line canopy tours. It also offers horseback riding and ATV tours. Tent camping is primitive, but the bathhouse is clean and efficient. Luxury cabins, lodges, bunkhouses, and cute Safari tents are available. There is a pool and hot tub near the well equipped gift shop, and the Red Dog Saloon and Grill for when you need a break from camp food. We had a blast on our rafting trip and truly enjoyed our stay.
Big, clean campground with great amenities such as a scenic walking path around the lake, pool, playground, clean and efficient bathhouses, hot breakfast options, nice camp store, etc. The cabin was perfect for a girls' weekend away. I was completely satisfied with my stay. I gave the campground 4 stars because a 5 would have to really put the wow factor into play. In summary, this campground provided a great camping experience.
Small and crowded pool; campground layout is very basic and not aesthetically appealing (almost like an open field with a few trees scattered throughout to provide shade); nice camp store; not too many amenities to brag about.
Not related to the campground, but mosquitos in this area are absolutely ridiculous. Make sure you are covered in repellant before you arrive because otherwise, as soon as you open car doors, you are COVERED in mosquitos. The town sprays daily, but the solution obviously doesn't provide sustained relief.
Camp grounds and bathrooms are clean, however the bathrooms are a bit of a haul from most campsites. It's a huge campground with many sites to offer. Pools and picnic shelters offer fun times and the park continually offers family activities such as concerts, parties, movies on the lawn, etc. I have stayed here twice and my experience with staff was borderline negative both times, as in not very helpful and brash.
The campgrounds and bathhouse are kept clean. Campsites are equipped with fire rings (of some sort) and accessible picnic tables. Park staff are knowledgeable and helpful. They offer seasonal/holiday family activities, host concerts and have many outdoor games to keep different ages involved. Lastly, the location is not too far from the beach and oceanfront activities. I've stayed here multiple times, and have never had a negative experience. I gave it 4 stars because it is a smaller scale camping venue, so amenities are great, but not over and beyond (which would be a 5 in my book).
