Here in late March and a good amount of snow on the ground. It’s a beautiful campground - each site with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill. It’s a good climb to get here but the views are worth it. Very well kept and doesn’t feel congested at all. 10/10 would come back.
Great location to reach all the nearby spots. Seems like a lot of dirt and mountain bikers frequent this place. The road in isn’t too bad, but would probably recommend high clearance. The camp spots can be a little close, especially if you don’t have some rock barrier from the next site. Overall, great for a night over but I’m not sure we’d make a stay of it here.
We went for 1 quick night and it was perfect. First come first serve sites on water, good fire pits and grill. amazing.
We were hauling across Idaho and Stanley was BUSY! Campgrounds were loaded with people RV’s. Stanley looked like a great little town, but we had to get away from the crowds.
We ended up going out 75N to check out some sites. There were quite a few nice places along the Salmon River. The river was gorgeous and a hotbed for fishing/rafting.
We ended up going north along the Yankee Fork in Sunbeam. The campground had 4-5 sites all mostly along the river. Restrooms were in quite good shape and all but one site was taken. As per usual, we did FF on a busy weekend and still got a site around 5 or 6. We couldn’t believe it was open as the sites had fire rings, tables, and space between.
We came to Beartooth Lake via Red Lodge on the Beartooth Highway. It’s a remarkable drive with views for days.
We didn’t have reservation coming up here, but found a beautiful site FF. We ended up in C19 and I’d highly recommend coming down to the last loop as there are only 4 sites and back here and two babbling brooks running down to the lake.
Sites were well maintained, spacious and protected from others. Toilets were FS toilets and got the job done.
We took a hike to the backside of the lake which had numerous shallow creek crossings and great vistas across the lake.
I don’t have any other campgrounds to compare to up here, but I would without hesitation come back.
