Family favorite

This is one of my favorite campgrounds! Full service with bathrooms, showers and camp store. You have easy access to Lake Hamlin and Lake Michigan for great swimming. Float down the creek to Lake Michigan or go hiking to the light house. There is so much to do here and it has easy access to Ludington for groceries or restaurants. It is a large campground and not a lot of privacy. We prefer the loop closest to Lake Hamlin. The walk in sites are also great for a backpacking light experience but they are truly walk-in by about 1 mile.

Amazing views and hiking

The campground is very clean and close to Twin Lakes. Sites are not on the water but it’s within walking distance to the rocky beach. There was not running water when we visited but they had a large water tank and we brought bottled. Close to a small camp store and gas station. There is great hiking in the area. We loved to hike on the other side of the lake to the old resort. The star gazing is also great. We would stay here again!

Full service but crowded

This campground takes a long time to get to but Copper Harbor is beautiful! It’s remote in one sense but the campground is full service with bathrooms, showers and laundry. There is electric at each site so it is popular with RVs and the sites in the East campground and not private at all. Our kids had a great time playing on the playground and we enjoyed touring the fort and swimming in Lake Fanny Hooe and Superior. There is a great network of bike trails in the area. We biked into Copper Harbor and out to Hunter’s Point where there is more hiking and beaches. Great location but wish the sites had more privacy.

Quiet camping near Traverse City

This is a quiet campground near Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes with amazing views of Lake Michigan. We stayed at site 42 right across the dirt camp road from the lake. Not many RVs so the nights were quiet. Vault toilets needed to be pumped empty when we visited near the end of the season in August but they were cleaned everyday. Great location for our family to visit Suttons Bay and Sleeping Bear Dunes with plenty of bike trails and beaches in the area. Closest town is Northport with a full grocery store. Campground has firewood and ice on site plus some basic supplies at the gift shop.

Rustic camping near pictured rocks

We stayed here mid week in August to see pictured rocks. Campground has 8 sites and is first come first served. There were 2 sites open when we arrived about 3 pm; filled up by evening. From talking to the locals we met on the back roads, this campground and the others nearby are becoming more popular. We stayed at site 6 which is on the inside of the loop not lakeside. There are 2 lakeside sites that have great views but the rest are fairly private and flat. The hand pump well is quite sandy so bring bottled water. The best road in is down Twin Lakes Truck Trail off H-58. The roads are dirt/sand and some of the other routes are best with 4x4 but we did fine with our minivan and dry conditions. Nice location to pictured rocks and no fuss camping with quiet neighbors and lake views.
