Basically one big parking lot, but it has nice views of the surrounding mountains and harbor. They provide toilets and dumpster which is nice, also the spots have fire pits.
As of May 31st there isn’t access to some areas as there is snow blocking the way, some areas are wet from the snow that has already melted. The toilets up at Castle Lake are still covered in snow and inaccessible. Pack in pack out. Other than that nice peaceful area, you can hear the river running, and has a nice view of Mount Shasta.
Nice area, campsites we’re clean, rangers were nice. They have areas that are full hookup, partial hookup, no hookup, tent only areas, and group camping. They also have day use parking for $3. Didn’t go on the trails as the ranger informed us they have ticks as mule deer are in the area. Other common animals are wild turkey, gray fox, bobcats, raccoons, steller’s jay, hawks, golden eagles and the occasional mountain lion. Definitely was a nice stay and will be going back
Very nice spot for camping. Loved the trails, nice sunrise. Will definitely come back
Very nice camping area, beautiful sunrise, nice trails. Its pack in pack out, pit toilets. Watch little dogs as the area has hawks.
Area was nice, no trash, host was nice, the only thing was there was A LOT OF FLIES. Other than the flies it’s an good campground, there are pit toilets across the street at the hot springs along with trash cans.
Favorite free campsite so far. Free for 30 days, pack in pack out, there are pit toilets near the entrance, no liter removal or water. Horses and dogs allowed. Beautiful views and trails. There are quite a few bees though, other than that, loved it.
Good if you need to get off the highway to catch some sleep. People shoot here so there’s shells, rusty metal, and broken glass everywhere.
