First time stay - won't be the last.

This was our first time staying at Echo Lake Campground. We pulled in on a Friday night and a number of sites were already full or reserved. We ended up picking site #10.  It was a good site.  A slight incline down from the road but a nice tent pad and a very roomy site.  The campground was very quiet even though there were a number of people staying there.   A number of the sites would be good for either tents or campers.  We would happily stay here again!

We'll be back to this one!

This was our first time staying at Two Island Lake Campground. We spent the first part of the week further up the Gunflint and wanted to find someplace new for the second part of the week. We got to the campground on a Wednesday and there were only 2 other sites taken so we pretty much had our pick of sites. We ended up in site #34. Along with a couple other sites it is at the end of the third loop of the campground. The site was long and very roomy. Several places to put up tents or plenty of room for a camper. There is also a nice trail back to the lake with a nice flat area at the end for sitting and enjoying the view or for storing your canoe/kayaks. When we first arrived to the campground we had no neighbors and it was very quiet and peaceful. However it seems that this must be a very popular campground because before long we had neighbors on both sides. Fortunately the campsites are well surrounded by trees on all sides and we rarely heard or saw our neighbors.

We were also happy that this campground is only about 15 minutes away from Grand Marais as we had a rainy day and we went into town to relax and play tourist.

We stayed here from Wednesday thru Saturday and as we left on Saturday we drove thru the campground and found that only 2 or 3 empty sites remained. We will most definitely be staying at this campground again but we will remember to go in the middle of the week as it seems to fill up quickly on the weekends!

End of the Trail

Trail's End Campground is another one our favorite campgrounds. At the end of the Gunflint Trail it is secluded and very peaceful. We've stayed here a number of times. This time we were in Site #14 for the third time. The site is up a slight incline. Up the path from the road there is a nice level area where we put the picnic table but others may use as the tent pad. Up a little more and you have another level area with the fire pit on one edge. The site looks out over the lake and usually gets the breeze quite nicely. There are two slight issues with this site however ….if there are people in site #15 you can see and hear them and it is at the very start of the second loop of the campground so you can hear the traffic coming and going to all the other sites on the loop. These things do tend to take away a bit of the secluded feel. We have gone to this campground with no reservation and always found a spot. And as we have explored the campground over the years we have never found a "bad" spot. However as more people learn about this treasure of a campground and it gains in popularity it is a must to make a reservation if you are hoping for one of the more popular sites during the busy times.

This campground has an outfitters on site for any of your Boundary Waters needs. We have never used them but we have gone to a number of outfitters just a few miles down the trail and they have all been wonderful. There are also a number of hiking options available relatively close by. I would highly recommend hiking to the Magnetic Rock!

Flour Lake

This was our second stay at Flour Lake and both were excellent! We stayed in site #26 both times. Long site with plenty of room and a perfect little area for the tent. There is also a trail that leads back to the Lake and a little area where we brought our chairs and enjoyed the sunset. Very quiet campground. Close by is the Honeymoon Bluff trail. Very short hike that is well worth it - beautiful views! We also did a day canoe rental from historic Clearwater Lodge. I would highly recommend visiting the Lodge, paddling Clearwater Lake, and also hiking the Palisades Trail if you can. It was an incredible day!

Love Sawbill!

Sawbill is one of our favorite campgrounds! We've stayed here numerous times and never had a bad visit. This was our first time at site #49. It is a very nice site with plenty of room. We usually do a day canoe rental when we visit and the staff at the outfitters are wonderful. Very nice and helpful - again never a bad experience!
