Stayed here for first time for a weekend. We prefer more rustic camping generally but came with friends and were pleasantly surprised. The camp sites are more spacious than I expected and have mature landscaping between sites. The grounds are immaculate!!!
The staff is very nice and three of our party enjoyed the 9-hole golf course which is in excellent condition.
Nice spacious sites at this county run campground near the border. Lots of shade trees. Trails, playground, cabins for rent and pavilion that can be rented for large group meetings/dinners.
Easy drive to Campo with its historic train rides and museum @ the old Campo store. Fascinating historical area including former Italian POW camp from WWII.
We have stayed at Catavee three times so far. The sites are spacious and still have a lot of trees for shade (which has become a concern in the area due to beetle issues). You can walk to the lake easily from any site.
Restrooms are always clean and well maintained. No showers.
We like site 12 because it’s like its own island. Plenty of room in all sites for a tent as well as trailer and usually tow vehicle.
Don’t miss Deer Creek that runs adjacent to the campsite. Great serene spot for reading a book or hopping logs to the other side.
There is so much to do in the area! Rancheria Falls, McKinley Grove, Jackass Meadow, Florence Lake, Mushroom Rock, Black Rock Trail and even take the chair lift up China Peak (walk, ride the lift or ride a bike down).
Deer creek campground sits on the edge of Huntington Lake. Many of the sites have views of the lake or are right on the lake. Although a lot of trees have been cut down due to the beetle issue in the last few years most sites still have plenty of shade or you will sacrifice the shade because you get an unobstructed view of the beautiful lake.
Huntington Lake is about an hour past shaver Lake which is about an hour from Fresno. Huntington is typically 8 to 10° cooler than shaver Lake. Temps in the summer are in the 70s at Huntington. There is a lot to do in the area Including easy hikes to waterfalls and magnificent vistas like at mushroom rock. We enjoyed driving up Kaiser Pass to jack ass meadow and Florence lake. Also, Indian pools is a great way to spend a few hours in beautiful scenery.
If you can’t get a camping spot at Huntington you can also camp at China Peak ski resort. It’s not fancy camping but it’s cheap and it will do if it’s the only way for you to enjoy this beautiful place.
Easy pull on and pull off campground off the 99. Close to Costco for cheap gas. Campsites are nice with full hookups and pull through options. Grass at each site. Nice looking amenities but we only overnighted so can’t say how they were (esp during pandemic).
Staff very friendly. We did easy late check in and had no reservation but there wasn’t a problem. There were several sites still available. Would definitely stay here again.
