We had a family reunion here and rented out some cabins. It was a great time. Fishing is great. Listening to the river while falling asleep is also hard to beat.
I’ve camped here a couple of times in the past and it was adequate. The water didn’t look great at all, but maybe that just had to do with the level. There are showers, bathrooms, trails, and even some courts available for tennis, basketball, and volleyball.
We camped overnight here on a bit of a whim and we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of space some of the sites have between them. Some spots are right on the lake water and some are off in the woods a little bit more, which does somewhat provide a dispersed camping experience, although you are still at a camp site near an access road. Lots of room though.
This is a good place to camp, but in the main camp area the spots are fairly packed together. However the water is usually never far away. There are two campsites you can choose from, I prefer the one on the bank opposite the marina. The marina has a shop with all the standard stuff. There is also a bar on the marina that the locals love. They also provide rentals for watercraft.
We managed to snag a last minute spot at Buffalo Point B loop for Memorial Day weekend. The place was absolutely gorgeous. You can get great spots with amazing views of the Ozark Mountains and/or the Buffalo River. From our spot I could see down into the river from our ridge and opposite the river were mountains that rose above us. In the morning these were covered in fog that lifted in the morning.
The campground was packed but I didn’t care one bit. Immaculate grounds, with no trash, clean facilities, Ranger patrols, and nice guests. There was also hiking trails and access to the river right at the campsite.
There are shops that you can purchase a canoe/kayak rental with 4.5 and 9 mile options and a transportation fee. It’s about $80 per canoe and $70 per kayak if I remember correctly. Pricey, but still worth it because of the spectacular views of the wilderness you will get.
I have been hiking here twice but haven’t camped yet. The trails and the river make for some great scenery. Be wary of the water level, this can impact any hiking you might be looking to do, so be ready.
