Good base camp for exploring the porkies and the nearby waterfalls of the black river
Pros: good swimming, clean bathrooms, easy access off 90 (convenient) Cons: little to no separation between sites, easy access off 90 (busy)
Campgrounds in Teddy were closed due to Covid so had to find an alternative. This did the trick nicely. Much of the campground seems geared toward the horse crowd, but the small non horse tent loop was nicely set in a wooded area by a creek. Neat views of the bluffs all around.
Perfect for a quick night away from the twin cities. Several small hikes to the bluffs right from the campground loop. Solid campground all around.
One of my favorite car camping spots. Perfect gateway to the north unit of Teddy and has some good trails of its own. The sites are nicely spaced and well maintained. Peace quiet and coyotes at night. Tough to beat.
Have stayed here several times on the way and way back from trips further west (from MN). Getting a little too popular (crowded) in recent years but there’s good reason why: it’s a good, unique, convenient spot. Bison roam through the campground and some of the best stargazing I’ve seen.
As far as car camping goes this is pretty nice. Occasional road noise bothers some people. And some campsites better than others. Waterfall hikes make it worth it.
Great hike-in site and terrific snowshoeing (highly recommend the grand portage trail)
