Best Campground Ever

Not much to say except that it’s a great campground. Lately, it’s difficult to get a spot. Some sites are closed and there’s been an increase in traffic during the pandemic, but if you get a spot then you’ll be happy.

Loud but overall decent experience

Really loud because of the train and the highway. Not a huge issue for me but not ideal. The train blew its horn a couple times in the middle of the night. The river is close and the gorge is beautiful. Probably would be difficult to swim with the constant high winds. The dirt is really dry and dusty so it gets everywhere.

Private and spacious campsites

The campsite was spacious and private. Glad we stayed there.

1000% Will Return

You could spend your entire vacation here without leaving the campground (but don’t do that because there are two incredible National Parks right there). If I had to nitpick l, one thing is that most of the tent campsites aren’t too isolated from one another. When I stayed at the cabins, this wasn’t as much of an issue but still not great privacy. But I’m grasping at straws…I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Emory Bay is Beautiful

The campground is a little farther than I had hoped to be from the heart of Glacier NP, but Emory Bay is beautiful in its own right. If you’re there for an extended period of time and your main focus is to explore Glacier, it’d be ideal to camp inside the park. But if you want to spend a good portion of the trip outside of the park then this place is perfect. If I had a boat, I’d spend most of my time at Emory Bay.

Perfect Location

The campground is in a perfect location if you want to explore the redwoods. It’s not far from the Prairie Creek Visitor Center (James Irvine Trailhead) to the south and the trailheads for the Boy Scout Trail/Stout Grove trailheads to the north. You’re also really close to Crescent City if you need any groceries or want to eat at a restaurant one night. The campground itself was great too! Some campsites are more private than others and they’re definitely not uniform in layout, so if that’s important to you then it might be worth it to take a look at your individual spot. However, I took a walk around and didn’t see any “bad” layouts so I wouldn’t be too worried. Definitely recommended!
