Fun weekend getaway

I came here at the beginning of October for 2 nights tent camping, site 20, with some friends. Our fire pits grill grate was mostly smashed and didn't hold a skillet while other sites had nice grates on a swivel. Plenty of space apart from other sites and fun, hilly hiking trails nearby. The lake is beautiful and we fished a bit from the dock, didn't catch anything. Nice views of the leaves changing. Very limited cell service which was welcomed. Bathrooms were kinda rough and the showers were on a different side of the park.

We reserved our campsite online and paid for a parking sticker at the park office but since no one was there we left the money in the pay box with our receipt. Same with firewood.

Woods near the river

Went tent camping here and reserved our spot in advance. We bought fire wood from a locals front lawn at the entrance to the state park. Put 5$ in the bin and take a bundle. Its 30 mins away from Starved Rock and Matthiesson State Park. Good hiking. The river spots are all booked by large RVs and the tent spots have grills over the fire pits and picnic tables. lots of tree cover which came in handy when it rained in the morning. Otherwise great weather and not buggy. Dogs allowed.

Camping with all the amenities

We came here to enjoy some river tubing! Free shuttle takes you up river for a 3 hour float trip. We reserved one campsite for 2 couples. There was a picnic table, fire pit and electric hookup onsite. Port o potties and spigot nearby and a dumpster for trash. They have non electric camp sites along with RV sites and cabins with everything you could need including kitchen and tv. Seems like a lot of people stay there for the long haul as there are some trailer homes with heavy decoration.

The general store has everything you would need available for purchase and there's a large bar/restaurant attached. We were there the same day of a wedding reception. Free mini golf and swimming pool for campers. Bugs were a bit of an issue but thats expected. The river is clean with a shallow sandy bottom which attracts many parties and fun times. Not exactly the place for a quiet getaway.

Natural beauty of Yosemite

Amazing place worth visiting and checking off the bucket list. Cant wait to go back.

Great and popular site

We arrived just after dark and a neighbor provided us some of his extra wood. The site was near capacity but was an easy stopover on our trip from Yosemite.

Tubing trip was a fun drunk mess

We had fun tubing in sugar creek through Clements Canoes. It was August so the river was kinda low and we had to stand up and walk a few times. They have firewood for sale cuz you cant bring your own but we also found plenty of wood/sticks to burn. Raccoons will show up at night so pack up your snacks.

Great views and easy camping

The site is your standard plot with a table and fire pit. You pay in a cash box on the honor system. Be sure to hide tour food at night as raccoons are guaranteed to inspect them! We ventured out on the trail one night and camped in a clearing on a bluff overlooking the forest. Absolutely stunning!

Beautiful views and easy camping

Campsites are standard with a table and fire pit. Pay on the honor system in a cash box, 5 or 10$ I believe. Raccoons will inspect your stuff at night so pack up those snacks!! We also ventured out on the trail for 2 days and camped in some clearings which was a blast! It was toasty hiking through the muggy woods but the cliffs and clearings provided a breeze that made it easy.
