Gorgeous view across the lake. Quiet. Electricity worked well. Extremely clean. Camp hosts were nowhere to be found and another rig had claimed the end lake-adjacent site I paid for. They dumped their chairs and cruised to town, missing the sunset! Oh well. Still a peaceful evening. Didn’t try the showers, but they looked nice (located at start of loop near entrance).
Stopped at Kanab BLM office for beta. House Rock Valley Road has eight numbered dispersed sites. We took a look at all of them and ended up at the last one, #8, up a spur road just past the cattle guard around 4.3 miles off the highway. Tucked back toward the valley wall there was less wind and more privacy … until Saturday morning when petroglyph hunters traipse through camp because the trail starts just beyond your fire pit.
Starting this summer in 2021, all Grand Teton National Park campsites must be reserved in advance online at Recreation.gov.
Gorgeous views, huge campground, bring your allergy meds when the cottonwood fluff starts flying in June.
Last time we stayed here I think I counted about 7 times we broke … ‘cause there are so many rules! No pit bulls, no exterior steps not integrated into the camper, no storing things outside the camper, camper age restrictions and inspections … thank goodness it’s expensive and completely packed. 😃 But feels safe with WiFi and clean bathrooms, completely adequate for a quick overnight.
For about $35 you get a place right on the highway (hello noise) that has private security patrolling it. No bathroom, no WiFi, no 30 amp electricity. It’s more of a stay-hitched-then-skedaddle quick overnight.
Loved this adorable campground. I just wish someone had told me there’s no cell service. I tried to work remotely while here. Terrible idea. (I know) Even in 40° rain the only way to call out or get online is sitting on the (comfortable) porch of the clubhouse to catch the WiFi and use wifi calling. That works for 20 minutes, but not for two days. Quiet, clean, beautiful, great hot tub and pool. Next time I’ll plan not to work.
Check the weather before you go! Our first night the area was quite busy, but most people packed up and left on a Saturday morning. Unusual. Then the wind began, and it ripped up our camp mat, tossed over the kitchen table and rocked us until we cried uncle and left a day later. Gorgeous place. No cell service.
