The idea of camping on the beach is cool but be prepared for high wind, lots of sand everywhere, and the hot sun. We also went in the summer time so maybe it's better in the fall or spring. Still had a blast though and of course the kids loved the beach and playing in the water and sand.
Really cool park about 20 mins from bastrop state park. The roads and loop around the park are very smooth and perfect for biking…or longboarding or rollerblading. The camp spots next to the lake are very cool and there's a fun out and back trail with lots of shade which is perfect for families. Definitely a very family friendly park and camp area.
Bastrop state park is awesome! So cool how this patch of pine trees are in central Texas and can give you the feel of being in the mountains. A lot of the park is still damaged from the fire but seeing the new pine trees grow is very encouraging and beautiful in its own way. There's also a playground which was great for our little ones.
Colorado Bend is beautiful and secluded. It is home to Gorman Falls, which is the tallest waterfall in Texas, but even besides that the park is gorgeous with awesome bluffs, river, trails, swimming hole, kayaking, and views. Definitely recommend visiting Colorado Bend for a day trip or camping.
Camped on a Thursday night so there weren't as many people at the park which was nice. Hiked to the peak for an amazing sunset then hiked back up to the peak at 11pm and I can't even describe how many stars you could see. It was very windy at the top but the view of all the stars was incredible and worth the second trip up that evening. Definitely recommend camping at enchanted rock during the week if possible and late night summit hike. Also just be careful cause we heard coyotes in the distance and always be aware for snakes.
