Free camping in the San Bernardino mtns

I got the very first spot. It’s a bit of a drive but very scenic and should be doable in any car. My campsite was big and spacious and looked up at an outcropping of rocks. It had a makeshift fire pit and picnic table. Spots are easy to see because of the yellow signs. Weather is definitely colder than in the valley, got snow overnight in mid May. Had very bad but there at&t cell reception. Nice and quiet with space between spots. Get there earlier to find a spot, people seem to stay for awhile.

Awesome free camping for Sequoia/kings canyon

Free dispersed camping in sequoia national forest. I got there at around 5 on a Sunday and quickly got a spot. There was a fire pit but also a fire band going on. No at&t cell reception which is true for most of the surrounding national forest/park land. People were listening to music but it wasn’t too loud and they stopped when it got later. No showers or anything obviously but they do have showers in the nearby parks seasonally. Great spot to use as a base for hiking, make sure to lock up your food because there is bears (though I didn’t see any).

Good free camping

Nice place to pull off the highway and sleep while being sort of close to some cool stuff. People were pretty on top of each other in the first part of the campsites, could tell some had been there for awhile. If you keep driving past all the spots you’ll reach a dirt road. If you turn left and continue down it for a bit you can find some more remote spots, just keep your eye out for the fire pits so you know you’re in an actual campsite. I stayed in a spot that was pretty surrounded by people because I like the company, but even then it didn’t get too loud. Loudest thing was the birds honestly. No toilets, but I did have good at&t cell reception. Would stay again.

Great location for free camping

This road is a very short drive from Zion, and located perfectly in the middle of a lot of great stops. Just a dirt road with other roads you can pull off on to find spots. If you keep going down the road you’ll eventually reach a gated off area, I camped in the spot directly to the right of that. This was a little bit of a mistake because my camp area was what everyone used to do a three point turn away from the gated road. But that was more entertaining to watch than bad. Even as far as I was in it didn’t take long to get back to the highway. Fire ring and lovely views. People were close enough that I could occasionally hear them but not really see them. Would stay again!

Nice free camping

I ended up having a late day at Bryce Canyon and needed to find somewhere close to stay around 5:30 pm on a Saturday in season. Got a spot right off the first left turn when you get on toms best spring rd. Some of the spots are less obvious, but I found a spot pretty quickly. There are clearly visible ones right off the main road, or you can pull off the side roads where there’s tons more. It was nice to be close to highway 12 since I had an early morning shuttle ticket in Zion. Sunset was lovely, and most sites have a fire pit. Road wasn’t too rough but definitely not paved. I didn’t notice any noise where I was at other than the occasion car driving past looking for a spot. Cant beat free, would definitely stay here again.

Great free camping

FR117 is the main road you pull off of for clear camp sites, or you can drive down one the dirt roads to look for a spot further down. If you drive a few miles in you’ll reach an open gate, I camped at the spot directly next to this. Had some noise from cars going passed but that stopped as it got later. There are a lot of spots I found with more privacy but I was looking for something that felt safe camping alone. If you go past the spot next to the gate you can take a curvy road down a bit and when you go past another gate there will eventually be more spots. I was at one of these initially but it felt too remote for me. Some much more private spots out past the second gate if you take a left on a gravel road uphill. Great place to stay if you’re hiking in Bryce Canyon or escalante.

Great free spot to stay for bisti

I was pretty confused getting here, google and Apple Maps seemed to struggle with me coming from Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah trailhead. It kept trying to take me down a road covered in cattle that led to de-na-zin parking lot. Finally found my way here by using online instructions from the blm website instead of using the pin. Once there it was really nice though. Plenty of stars and a bathroom to use, which is always appreciated at a free spot.

Gorgeous views

I camped right up next to the rooster butte, the rocks there added a degree of privacy. Went on some great hikes around the spot. There’s a couple different spots by rooster once you drive up towards it. Each spot had a semi made firepit. I was the only one parked near it so spots were easy to find here. Road was rough but I made it fine in my Honda hrv. Entrance isn’t passable if there’s been rain so consider that. Woke up to a great sunrise! Would definitely camp there again

Great spot

Road was very bumpy but doable. This is not parking along a road, not sure where previous reviewer stayed. You go off the highway and then it’s like 9 miles or so down a rugged dirt road to the campsite. It will be just a bit past the wire pass trail parking lot. There’s a sign that says “stateline campground” so you’ll know when you get there. Took me maybe 30 minutes after leaving the highway to reach it. It’s only a handful of spots but I was able to snag one getting there at 5 pm. Each site has picnic tables with awnings and there are two pit toilets. For a free campground it was nicely taken care of and had some decent views. Campsites had a fire pit with a snap on grill. Great place to stay if you want to hike the wire pass in the morning.

Perfect spot

I had such a nice night camping here. Close to the road so you don’t have to stress about driving down some sketchy bumpy road, easy access is always a plus for me. Really lovely views all around. My spot was looking right down at the river, made for a great spot to sit and read. Other campers were all friendly which was good because you are pretty close to one another. Went down to the rice for some yoga and to go for a little swim. Water was cold but refreshing after a long day of hot hiking. Stars were incredible at night as well. There might have been a bit of noise from the nearby road, but it isn’t busy enough to be a problem. Would absolutely stay here again.

Great free spot

Close to arches, canyonlands and dead horse. Nice for a free campground to have portapotties spread out along the road. People tended to share camp spots when I was there. Perfect for car camping but you may have some loud neighbors. Great place to stay near Moab with pretty views as well. Cant get better than free.
