Pretty Campground - Irritating Campsite

Great little campground. Right on the Rio Grande River…walk out of your tent straight into excellent fly fishing waters. Vault toilets. Nice campground host. Spaces are close together but it was very quiet. Not hardly any shade. Site 007 I would not recommend…the tent area is separated from the picnic table and fire pit by a good 25 yards…not convenient.

Would visit again!

I love Elkmont because of the River…and we were finally able to get a reservation on the River (B09) and I’m shocked to say I won’t stay on the River again. River spots are closer together and talking over the roaring is difficult at times. Gorgeous but loud. Waste water system was being worked on so Port-o-Potties were setup where each bathroom was. Inconvenient, but they were cleaned and pumped out each day which made it tolerable. Concessions stand doesn’t open until May. This campground remains a favorite of mine, but our trip was not what I had expected it to be this time. Will 100% go back and I think everyone should stay there at least once.

Awesome Campground!

We were worried the forecasted rain was going to ruin our trip, but even rain didn’t put a damper on this place! Access road is a slow go because of numerous blind curves. Camp host was very nice. Facilities were very clean and saw ranger cleaning them daily. The campground was quiet…larger rigs can’t make it up the road, so generators are rare there. Husband went fly fishing and caught brook and rainbow. The elk were everywhere!!!! They even walked thru the campground!!! It was truly amazing! Definitely recommend staying there!
