We were the only ones there, so peaceful. The views up top we're incredible. Sites are good size and bathroom was clean.
Only downside is the road getting there is VERY bumpy.
Pros: Big sites, room for extra cars, close the recreation especially Detroit Lake, nice camp host, close to town if you need something.
Cons: On. The. Highway! The sound of semi trucks through the night is not peaceful. Bathrooms were ok, not great.
While this resort has a lot of amenities (none open during covid) and is close to Newport, it is not worth it if you are tent camping. The spots were all small and close to each other. AND it was $43. Way too expensive for the experience we had.
On the plus side: Staff was nice and bathrooms were clean.
I can't recommend the RV option because I don't have an RV, but I will say the spots look right and close to your neighbors.
We arrived mid-Saturday Labor Day weekend and less than half the sites had been claimed. It was perfectly positioned between our weekend activities: Painted Hills and Lucky Strike Mine. By late Saturday most (if not all) sites we're claimed.
The sites are large and well looked after. Bathroom was surprisingly clean and not smelly. Camp host even provided a large tank of water (but I wouldn't count on that).
Pro Tip: drive 20min East to Mitchell, Or and get a pint at Tiger Town Brewing. Great people, food and beer! We packed camp dinners for both nights, but ended up at Tiger Town every night because the atmosphere was so good.
