We reserved spot 10 for 2 nights. Equidistant between the main house and the new bath house on the SW corner of the property. It was a tad pricey but such as all the parks now. We had a 13ft pull behind that fit easily in our site.
My crew of 4 spent two nights there. It was a tad windy, but the bathrooms were nice and spacious, the layout of the entire site was nice although the map made it a tad difficult to find our site. They were out of passport stickers, but if that is the worst that happens in a weekend, we are golden. I will return to this campground.
The weather was prime for a December campout. It was a tad windy, but the campsite offered a nice spot with a round table, grill, and rock ringed fire pit. Large tree surrounded campsites were all perfect for roof top tenting. We booked site 40, but couldnt find 39 or 40 so we stayed at 35. Kindling was plentiful (firewood available at the park office $5 a bundle). Short hike down to the water. There was a "beach" on the south end near the amphitheater and nature center. Once the sun went down we noticed a massive Christmas lighting display up near the RV portion. This made the trip! The restroo. Was open near our site. HEATED!. Loved the entire experience. I will return!
I didn't come here out of choice, but out of necessity to stay with my friends as we were going to float. Our campsite was tucked in behind the stage and very near the restrooms.
The restrooms were nice, but could have been laid out way better and more efficient. One toilet in the men's and as a tall guy…when the door touches you when you sit……well that isn't great. The showers were large and worked well.
There is a disc golf course on site, which I can only assume can be played when the campsite attendance is low.
I did see a few RVs, I am not sure on hookups, but they were right next to the bathroom.
I believe they do charge by car, so I paid for 1 person what a family of 4 pays. Not sure how I feel, but it is what it is.
I pulled in about 10pm last week (late October). I tried to pay online as per requested. I set up my 4runner and Roof Top Tent and passed out. There were ZERO other campers but a bunch of RVs.
The Catfish bay campground was a super open peninsula with very little trees. There were human dropping buildings that looked clean but I didn't use. On the night I was there it was 68 with a very light breeze. I can see the summers being rough at this campground with almost zero cover. Nice shore line and my guess is the fishing is good.
Probably won't return as I don't see this campground offering much.
Of the 23 campsites, we choose #1. A single campsite that we doubled up in. One of our group of 4 arrived early last Friday morning and our campers all were there by 5pm. We had enough room four 3 vehicles and one trailer. It was pretty foggy for the entire trip so I am sure that the Emerald Vista view would have offered a bit of wow, but nevertheless we found time to enjoy our company.
On Saturday we found ourselves on the 2.5 mile Mountain Trail Loop. The beautiful hike heads out of the camp, around the mountain to a rocky vista which probably has a cool view (again…foggy) and then back on the opposite side of the highway (which is almost always in earshot from the trail but not intrusive) to the campsite. From both the turnback point, and the beginning of the trail are opportunities to hope on the much larger Ouachita Trail.
Back to the campsite. A circular campsite with 2 human dropping stations. I didn't see any water, but we never looked. Almost every type of camper type was there, from RVs down to single tents. The high temp for the weekend was about 56 and the place was packed solid.
Payment is via a pay station as you come in. The ranger will come around in the morning some time and check your stubs. We paid $8 per night for a single camp site.
The online reservation system wasn't working but it appeared to show many vacancies. I packed up my rig and headed out from Tulsa. Upon arrival i ran into the camp host. He said to pick a site and pay at the office the next morning. I chose a nice site on the west side of the area near the water. A beautiful night on a no frills site. I will return!
