Solitary spot

This is a cool spot, but because the name is “roaring winds”, I thought it’d be at least slightly windy. It wasn’t. At all! It was actually dead quiet at night, so quiet I could hear a pine needle drop. Maybe not THAT quiet, but I definitely could hear mice and other critters scurrying around the rock field next to us. It’s the only campsite up there, but it’s right off the trail, so can feel busy until the crowds die down. You also need a permit obtained through Olympic national park’s reservation system to stay here. You have to hike in a few miles (give or take) from either trailhead as well.

Nice quiet spot

We were hoping to grab any first come first serve spot and luckily this place had a few spots left. When we came by here around the same time last year, it was completely full so in my experience it can be hit or miss. Can’t remember what site we stayed at, but they’re all pretty good! Loved that it was quiet at night.
