The worst, worst, worst

Bring your Mini and your two-man ultralight backpacking kit, because that’s what you’ll have room for at these cramped tent sites. Forget about a relaxing afternoon in your hammock - there won’t be trees at your site suitable for hanging, and if there are trees, they’ll be over a muddy blackberry patch separating you from your neighbors. And your neighbors will definitely be up swearing at each other across their campfire until 11, radio blaring from their truck stereo. Should you be lucky enough to fall asleep, there’s a good chance a fire engine on Highway 101, which is a hundred yards away, will shoot past at midnight to make sure you have a bad time.

Paradise on the right site

North Waldo is unfairly maligned - but I think it's at least as nice as nearby Islet. I strongly recommend the sites on the south loop nearest the lake - several of them are downhill from the road, and therefore quiet and woodsy and free of mosquitos (yay!). The bathrooms are newer here than at Islet and clean and functional. Water is cold and clear and perfect. Trail access is amazing.
