Bad Road Noise

If you need a convenient stopover for a night, this place is fine. However, you are in a beautiful part of the country and can do much better. There are a few spots along a creek that are nice, but with most you feel like you are in a parking lot.

Convenient Location

Chatfield State Park Campground is not the most scenic campground, but it has a very convenient location.  Whether you live in Denver and just want a quick getaway or if you are visiting friends in the area, it is a very easy place to camp.  Located on the Southwest side of the metro area, it is just off of I470.

The park has great amenities with a great lake for powerboat sports.

Additionally it has a  fresh water "gravel pond" on the south side that is great for SUP and human powered craft.  Trails throughout, both paved and dirt.

The campsites have good tree coverage and views of the foothills.

Best Dirtbag Camping in Moab

This is one of the best dispersed camping areas around Moab.  The location is north of Moab by 25 minutes or so.  Right on two mountain bike trails - Sovereign Single track (great for intermediate and advanced riders) and the Klonzo trial system (great for beginners).

There are great moto options all around too.  The road can be a little rough getting back to these sites so lower clearance vehicles may have some trouble.

Great location, great riding, and free.

Oasis in the Desert

I typically visit this campground a few times per year on mountain biking trips. The grass fields and trees are unique in that most desert camping is spent sand out of all your nooks and crannies. The showers are a bonus after long days in the saddle.
