Full hookups with space

I usually hate full hookup sites because they pack everyone in so tightly. Not here! The full hookup sites are very spacious and surrounded by grass (or weeds - at least green) and trees.

The park itself is huge and has miles of bike trails that then connect to trail systems outside of the park.

Lakeside camping with boat ramp and trail access

We stopped at Matchless as we needed a first come site the night before our reservations at Molly Brown. We were a bit skeptical at first as it looks like a large asphalt parking lot. The campsites all surround the parking area so you park on asphalt but are steps away from your wooded site. We were on the lake side so hade decent but filtered views. We were also right on the Turquoise Lake trail that connects the campgrounds and runs around the lake.

We checked out Molly Brown where we had reservations. Our site wasn’t as good as the Matchless one and camp host at Molly Brown was not accommodating about transferring to an open site. We ended up staying at Matchless where the camp host was fantastic. We were there for four nights and had a great time.

Leadville is also a great town with spectacular views and lots to do. We took the train ride and rode the 12 mile Mineral Belt bike trail - both were quite enjoyable.

Wonderful campground around lake

Very peaceful location with lake, mountains and stream. Even when full it isn’t overrun. Lake is great for kayaks, SUPs and stocked for fishing. Very popular and fills quickly - a handful of sites are first come first serve. Used cell booster to get decent signal

Beautiful, serene camping along creek (with new owners)

Not your typical asphalt RV parking lot. Rarely can you find a full hookup site in a natural setting along a roaring creek. The park has a variety of accommodations with full hookup sites, a “tent” section with electricity (lovely for small RVS as well) and log cabins. Many of the sites are along the creek as it meanders through the camp.

Location is great as well. Easy drive from I-70 but far enough to be out of town. Also a quick drive into Glenwood Springs.

New owners purchased park in April 2021 and are improving facilities while maintaining the natural feel. Check-in was easy even without reservations. The new owners are very friendly and welcoming.
