We had nice views of the lake from our campsite. Booking a spot was very easy using Recreation.gov. Many campsites were closed while we were there during COVID restrictions, so check ahead. There are trails available for hikes around the lake.
This is a great get away from the city campground. It’s proximity to Fort Hood makes it convenient for a relaxing weekend with our soldier kids our grandkids. It’s a very clean campground with kayaks for rent. I have also enjoyed fishing. We stayed in our trailer while our kids and grandkids used one of the cabins.
Alamo Fiesta RV Resort has all the things you might be looking for for an overnight stop over. There is a pool, a store, laundry, etc. The staff are friendly and helpful. A large percentage of the trailer spots seem to be occupied by long-term residents, who are friendly enough, but I felt self-conscious as a more prosperous vacationer. My parking spot was closer to Interstate 10, so there was highway noise. Ask if a space farther away from the highway is available when you check in.
