Incredible

Anyone interested in National Parks has the Grand Canyon on their list. But, I’ll admit, that it wasn’t one I prioritized.

It far exceeded my expectations, especially the North Rim and the campground associated with it. It’s a must see for anyone with a love for the outdoors. It’s stunning.

The campground itself was the best campground I’ve ever been to, at least for what it is trying to be.

This isn’t a rough-it campground. It has immaculate bathrooms with flush toilets, dish cleaning stations, a general store just a few hundred feet from campsites with virtually anything you would need from groceries to camping supplies, the sites are decently dispersed, and the staff is attentive and caring. The setting is beautiful. You are surrounded by pine tree forest at 8,000+ elevation. You can tent camp or RV camp. We tent camped.

For a camping experience that still feels like camping but has amenities too, this spot can’t be beat.

Fantastic

Beautiful spot! It had a little over 21 sites surrounded by Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir trees. There is lots of wildlife. We saw plenty of deer and even an elk.

Bathrooms were as clean as a campground can get.

Will definitely come again!

Great spot

Stayed at site 47. Great park. Another park that the CCC left its mark on. For a West Texas kid, Caddo feels otherworldly. Fun fishing, many big sites, decent bathrooms.

Great spot for Trans-Pecos camping

The Davis Mountains and the state park offer an opportunity for Texans to experience all the Trans-Pecos has to offer.

With close proximity to McDonald Observatory, Balmorhea, Alpine, Marathon, Marfa, and even close enough for a day trip to Big Bend & Terlingua, this campground is tough to beat.

The sites themselves are well cared for, with clean bathrooms and attentive hosts. The trails are modest but still offer some stunning views. The on-site, CCC built Indian Lodge is a beautiful work of architecture and history.

It’s hard to imagine this site being set up any better than it is.

Stunning views

This site has some of the best views you could wake up to, at least as far as someone like me from West Texas is concerned.

The bathrooms are very clean and smell good too.

The reasons I give this site 3 stars is because it’s small and the sites are very close together, and there are horse ranches in the area. Because of this trucks with giant horse trailers drive on the road early in the morning. It sounds like an airplane taking off.

Beautiful, secluded

Wonderful site. You are surrounded by old growth pine trees while camping in an old CCC base camp. Our site was right next to a small stream, which along with the wind in the trees made for a nice experience while falling asleep.

The tent hosts work hard to keep the site very clean and cared for.

We will be back.

Great site with a few drawbacks

This site is great. You just need to get there.

The views are incredible. The sites are spread out enough that you don’t feel like campers are stacked on top of each other. The camp host is friendly and attentive. The bathrooms are as clean as can be. Your proximity to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Zapata Falls can’t be beat.

The only drawback is the road to get to the site is very rough and rocky. It takes an easy 20-30 minutes of driving just to go 3ish miles. Along with the road, the sites themselves are also rocky under the soil so it can be difficult to drive your tent stakes at times.
