Love tent camping

Meh

A very popular place for those who love to spend their time on the water. I was not impressed with the campsites. They were small and barely able to handle a single large tent let alone two tents. Sites were close with no landscaping on forest grounds to give privacy.

If you are seeking a quiet place this isn't it.

At the top of the world

Its quite a white knuckle drive but worth it. Campsites are close together but most appear to use campers. The Rubicon is close so there are many 4 wheel Jeeps and modified trucks rolling in and out.

Great hosts

Camp sites are well spaced apart allowing for privacy. I had site 7 and was able to set up 2 tents 8x10ft each. Toilets are vault toilets. It is quite a distance to the lake so many campers drive to and from. Hosts were great and keep it well organized and clean. Cons: mosquitoes and flies.

Close to the top of the world

This is a high elevation campground located across the highway from Caples Lake and Reservoir.

In winter it is snowed over creating a majestic sight.

In summer it just as spectacular. Very clear and very cold.

Fishing is the sport here. No speedboats.

Campground is riddled with boulders and slate rocks. Daily temp might reach 90f when its 100f in the valley.

Can get windy.

Vault toilets as plumbing would freeze and burst in winter.

Lots of Slate Rock

Because of the elevation there are a lot of boulders and slate rock. This makes area somewhat barren looking as trees need more soil.

However camping and fishing are popular on this lake. No speed boats.

Vault toilets.

6 miles down to heaven

This campground is handicapped friendly. Its not large but rests aling the Cosumnes River with a boardwalk and cement walking trail good for wheelchairs and canes. Family friendly and well developed. I would give 5 stars uf restrooms had running toilets but the vault toilets are well maintained.

Reservations are highly recommended as they fill up fast.

Fishing is available via wood porches built to extend over river for wheelchairs. River has many shallow areas for safe water play with life jackets.
