snake river camping

The dirt road from flagg ranch headed west has camp sites all along Snake River. Some with 1-5 spots per site. Pit toilets, bear boxes but no running water that I saw. I liked that it was in the National Park but you definitely could get away from how busy it can be.

10/10 would do again

The camping in the National Park is so competitive so we took to the forest on Buffalo Valley Road. Camping in any national forest is allowed. There are a couple of pull offs right off the road - some of which face the Tetons. we camped over a valley with a river and had incredible views. Primitive, no bathrooms of course. We did have a fire ring

Showers and Laundry

We were under the impression you had to camp in Colter Bay to use the shower but it’s $4.25 and open to the park. The campground is convenient and the view from picknic area is breath taking!

no conversion vans

If you have any car modifications to make your car a β€œcamper” they will not let you stay. no built in stove or bed frame.

free and small

You can’t beat free with a picnic table, fire pit, and pit toilet! Although it is on the wrong side of the highway to be next to the water, so it’s more of a pull off on the side of the highway if the other 3 campgrounds along the way are full. only 3 sites. it’s between Yaak campground and whitetail. I believe yaak may have been free as well.

ok spot.

It was a well put together facility. 4 washers and 3 dryers for coin laundry (older units) small showers, tried not to be picky but didn’t feel very clean after seeing black mold on ceiling. the office was very accommodating when our tent sites weren’t level and let us move. there is a dish washing station that I enjoyed, hot water. a little cafe with bad WiFi. I couldn’t get the WiFi to do much for me at the pavilion or cafe. overall, it’s an ok spot. a parking lot for RVs and tent campers with trees in between.

Private RV Park with a couple tent spots

Showers, laundry, WiFi, small store. River access and a swimming pond. Owners are really nice. 4 tent spots or overflow parking. Nice and long with electric and water spouts

Decent place to camp - a little off the grid

11 camp spots , pit toilets and 1 yurt. The yurt was $25/night with reservation and the tent spots where $7.

Easy accsess to the water.

There are four campground along this road. Yaak falls, red top (only 3 spots) white tail, and Pete’s creek.

National Park campground

Be food safe. We had a black bear next to our vehicle one morning. The 6 miles dirt road out there is ROUGH. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise if you aren’t 4x4. Views are totally worth it. Not good biking or trails for dogs either. But the lake is gorgeous and if you have a kayak - it’s a blast! Glacier is competitive camping for sure but bowman seemed to fill up a little later.

Slice of heaven

If it has been or is going to rain - I would recommend 4 wheel drive. There are only two official spots - right above the lake. One pit toilet. No running water. Regardless - it was so peaceful and quiet we stayed 3 nights. 2 other lakes are the perfect short bike ride away - long lake and timber lake.

One of my favorites! Take it from a religious camper

This is a busy campground. It is perfect for floating, fly fishing, and ATV riders. I even got some good mountain biking in. There is a canoe/float rental right next door. Despite all the activity - the sites feel more secluded than most camp grounds and are nothing less than relaxing! No showers but there are bear boxes every couple of spots and running water. Pit toliets and we paid $15/night. Only planned on staying one night - ended up staying two!
