Went up at the end of 4th of July weekend. Found a great spot but it was apparent that the group before us used everywhere to go to the bathroom and covered it with paper towels. PRO TIP: make the hole first for when you need it and you want have any excuse not to use it! PLEASE LEAVE NO TRACE! Other wise we really enjoyed a quick night away in our van.
When we arrived we were surprised to have a double site which gave us more than enough space to set up 3 tents and an extra for the dogs. The lake was clear, beautiful and warm! We spend hours floating around enjoying the views. The folks at The Beaver Lodge just outside of the site were friendly and helpful if you need any basics you forgot. The vault toilets were maintained twice a day all days we were there. Overall, fantastic experience!
We were under the impression that we had spot near the water which was not the case. We adapted just fine to driving over to the day use area to access water. The swimming hole was on the small side but we got there around the time most families were packing up for dinner so it was relatively peaceful. We wish we had kayaks to explore the lake more! The lake is absolutely beautiful! We were also a little disappointed that the trails that would have lead down to the creek behind our site were al blocked off by fencing. The grounds themselves are ideal for families! Lots of space and activities. The sites themselves do not provide much privacy. If we were traveling with a group or a family with children this would have been fine but since there was just 3 women on this trip we had hoped for a little less exposure to other campers. I will say that the park is very well maintained and I frequently saw staff actively cleaning almost constantly which was impressive.
Spent the Sunday after the 4th of July and it was still relatively full We didn’t stay in the paid campground but a little further up the road. After having to clean the site up a bit it was a really great spot. Close enough to hear the river all night so it’s relaxing!
Got a little dusty and windy but once it died down the the view of the starts was worth the minor hassle.
We loved our stay here! Our campsite (#6) was right next to the trailhead down to lower falls and the bathrooms so it was not the most private but we never thought it was an issue. Some sites are definitely more private than others. I would recommend booking in advance. While we got lucky getting a reservation only a few days before we arrived, the site is on the small side and was full the entire time we were there. Make sure to stop in Cougar or before for wood, there is none available onsite. Also, the water onsite was not working but we were prepared with our own.
Stayed one night in a cabin and 2 nights in the D loop. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The campsite was spacious enough to set up a canopy and 2 tents comfortably. Bathrooms were clean and conveniently located. Swimming was great!
Wonderful place to camp. Make reservations 9 months in advance because they fill up. Camp sites are close together but still feel private. I will be returning
