Convenient and free

There are about 10 spots around the pond. We took one of the3  pull through right next to I-80. Plenty of space, level, shade and if you just look at the lake: quit a nice view. The noise from I-80 ist always there (about 200') but it's constant and was ok for us (rather than trains every 30 minutes). There's a lot of trash but that's to be expected in a area like this. We cleand up some and it was ok for a night

Great views, cute ponies

This is a park well worth a visit! Lots of hiking opportunities. Great views! The ponies are extra cute. Please respect the distance advice and don't feed them. We witnessed a lady attempting to pet the stallion of the herd, not respecting his signs to make her back off. Eventually HE will get into trouble for being protective of his herd, because of some disrespectful visitors. That is just dangerous and sad. As a general information: my photos of the ponies were all taken with a telephoto lens.

Great park!

The campground was nice, the staff friendly. Apparently there is a lot of bear activity, although we did not encounter one. The sunsets are to die for!

Tight campsites - beautiful park

Be aware, that the campsites are exactly the length as indicated. Not an inch more! Some people were able to fit their rigs in diagonally. The park itself is beautiful, the campground good enough to spend the night. Sites are very close together.

Beautiful place to spend the night

We were able to get the last spot, when we pulled in around 4 pm. It fills up fast.. Cool trail through the lava flow. Great views of sunrise and sunset.

What a great place to stay!

The campsites within the rock formations are just spectacular. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Great for biking and hiking.

Wonderful remote campground

We absolutely loved our stay at this campground! We arrived on Saturday, July 3rd and were very surprised to find most of the sites empty!

Good place to get away from fireworks, if you have an anxious dog.

Limited shade during those hot summer days.

The scenery is spectacular and offers cross country hiking for the adventurous. Awesome sunrise if you take a 10 minute walk.

Coming in from the north on Cox Road, it's a 3 mile drive on well maintained gravel road. Easily feasible with our 26 ft RV.

Beautiful little gem

We enjoyed one night here, while traveling through. Ended up having the whole campground to ourselves 😀.

Very beautifully nestled in the fragrant ponderosa trees.

Only downside: MILLIONS of ticks! We actually turned around after attempting to do the loop trail and literally being attacked by masses of ticks… So come prepared!

Booked site too small upon arrival

When we arrived at the check-in, we were told that our booked site (#93) would not fit our 26 ft RV. We had made reservations over the website months in advance (not seeing any restrictions as far as vehicle size goes). Apparently they had 7 RVs the day before with the same issue. The guy at the check-in offered us a group site as our last resort (as the campground was fully booked otherwise). We were charged an extra $20.00 for this site.

Besides the fact that the group site was right next to the dump station, with all the rigs driving by after dumping, there was not more width to the pull-through area than where our original campsite was. In fact it was very tight with the constant dump site traffic!

The website does obviously not indicate clearly which sites are suitable to them for RVs and which aren't. Looking at the website again after our visit, they probably don't want RVs on sites saying "grass and dirt". Even though I don't really see a difference in what they ended up putting us in. We kind of had the feeling, that they were looking to make some extra money…

Other than that, the campground was ok
