Tents only, Calm, Serene Water
Only Tents Allowed--this is the most serene place! They don't allow motor boats on one of the lakes so there is always calm water to canoe, kayak, swim, or paddleboard in.
Nice for a quick trip, but busy on the weekends
The sites are in big loops so there is lots of room for kids to run in the grass safely. There are fun historic places to drive or hike too. The blockhouses and Mandan Indian Village are must sees. You can't access the river if you bring a boat and there isn't a swimming spot.
Spacious Sites, Several Hikes, and Gorgeous Lake Views
The campsites are spacious. There are few great hikes that are kid friendly. There is a swimming beach (quite rocky, but large) and there is usually another beach with red rocks (lots have leaf fossils!) that you can get to pending the water level. There is a nice marina if you bring a boat.
