Need 4wd

My 2wd van made it up a little but I couldn’t get passed one of the big hills. Not very many sites.

Super secluded

Sites were nice and spread out. Great trails in the area. This site was right at the road but it’s not like cars are coming by all the time.

Nice and secluded

The only thing about this site specifically is the trail was close by so you’d occasionally see people walking by but not enough that it didn’t still feel secluded. Nice hikes in the area, great weekend!

Good spot

Super short walk to the campsite. There were bear lockers but I just cooked at the car in the parking lot. Bathrooms had pit toilets and were clean. If you’re contemplating paying to do any of the Mohonk Preserve hikes DO IT. Especially any of them that include the labyrinth. Coolest hike of my life.

Just okay

The coolest things about this campground are the access to caves and hikes. Tent sites are closer together than photos made it seem. It wasn’t BAD but it also wasn’t my favorite campground I’ve ever been to. Bathrooms were fine. Firewood was expensive but there isn’t another place to buy that’s close, so prepare for that. $25 for 3 bundles. Best sites are 102 or 100. Campground is patrolled often by security/staff (?)

Pretty close to perfect!

Check in people were super nice and welcoming! Firewood was 3 large bundles for $20, or 4 for $20 in the fall. It’s a huge campground. Site 16 had a path to the river and was slightly tucked away. Sites 13 and 14 were cool spots too, I’d imagine in the summer you may have less privacy because it’s near the swimming area. Sites aren’t on top of each other but you can see your neighbors. Very dog friendly campground with a small off leash fenced in area at the entrance. Mostly an RV park with some tent camping. There’s also showers and laundry if you need that. Bathrooms were well lit and clean.

The Perfect Weekend

The hike in was a tough one! Weather was 95 and sunny on the hike in, which didn't make it any easier. Couple of steep hills and a little rocky. Lots of breaks recommended! It was 3 miles to the camp site trail and then a mile and a half ish to campsite 16.

Once we reached the campsite it was absolute perfection. Perfectly secluded from the trail, plenty of trees to set up a hammock, and a nice little walk down to the water. The two negatives of the area I could possibly have (and I'm really digging here) is there was a bunch of carpenter ants and you sink right into the mud when wading in the water. We filtered water right from the reservoir instead of walking back to the spigot. Mostly quiet except for a big party group a couple sites over, but expected for 4th of July weekend!

This is a place I'd definitely want to return to.

Nice weekend!

Nice campground, semi private. The sites are spread out enough but you’re not completely alone. You hear a lot of cars going by if you’re at a site that backs up to the main road. Bathrooms are nice, maintained, and well lit. You can get ice and firewood at the camp store at the entrance. The map made it seem like site 30 was going to be set back a little into the trees but it was pretty open and exposed. I’d say 29 looks like the best spot of that loop.

Looks can be deceiving

If you’re looking for a nice, secluded, private weekend getaway… this isn’t it. If you and some friends/family reserve tent sites 20, 21, and 22 you can have the entire little alcove to yourselves! If you’re just reserving one of them, you will be close enough to hear that your neighbors did in fact have beans for dinner. Campground was well maintained. Bathrooms were fine. You do have to walk to those tent sites. The view of the river was gorgeous, we watched several barges go by! Kind of noisy at night since it seems like this is primarily an RV park and very tight knit, community like. There was some bigger logs for fires over by the dumpster. Stopped at galaxy grocery for firewood, about a 10 minute drive from the campground. All in all, had a good time!

Quiet & peaceful

Everything you would want from a campground, just realized maybe I don’t have the right gear for November 😂 gps did take us to the wrong place twice, not sure if that was user error or a confused gps. Just FYI! Also host site did not have firewood like some sites said they would. Get wood from a gas station (or another site said Lowe’s) before you get to the park!

A fall camping trip to remember

Wake up early and watch the sunrise at the overlook I’m telling ya! Also the bathrooms at the overlook are better maintained than the campground bathrooms plus the camp bathroom light didn’t work while we were visiting so it got a littttttle creepy after sunset. Overall great weekend.

Do the falls trail!!!

Stayed at site 44, it was a great time! Do the falls trail and do it early. Campsites are a little stacked but that’s okay for how nice it is and how close you are to the trailhead. Bathrooms are nice and well maintained.

Side note: absolutely no service for AT&T
