First word of advice - the gravel and dirt road is not well maintained. We had trouble with some sections of the road with large ruts and holes.
This campground is remote so if you are looking to be alone, this is the place.
Be prepared for mosquitoes, LOTS of mosquitos. 🦟🦟🦟🦟
Quiet campground, easily accessible from Portland.
Easy access to biking along the Columbia River.
Sites are well distance apart, some more private than others depending on trees and terrain.
Water, trash and toilets available. There is a host on site as well.
Some highway noise during the night but the campground is located directly off of the highway so it's to be expected.
We plan to return.
There are two loops to this campground- one is on the lake and the other is a bit further up the road. We stayed at the "additional sites " loop and it was walkable to the lake, even with kids.
There is not a beach here, but a boat launch. Lots kayaks and paddle boards.
There are a few bear boxes throughout the campground and a toilet.
NO TRASH. You must pack out your trash so be prepared.
Site vary in size and terrain. Our site had a rock fire ring. Others had a metal fire pits. There are no tables.
It was a little primitive, but if that's what your looking for this is the place.
This campground is first come for spots, no reservations and it's free so there is definitely higher demand. We arrived on a Thursday and got the last available spot. Several cars later in the day circled around looking for spots.
There were also a few spots "occupied" with a trailer and chairs, but no one at the site during the 2 days we were there. I suspect they claimed spots in anticipation of the weekend. Not cool if you ask me, but I guess that is to be expected in a remote campground with no supervision.
Lots of mosquitos morning and evening.
Two large bucks walked through in the morning, so be aware of wildlife.
We ended up at Lid Creek after the first few campgrounds along the lake were full.
Sites are on the small side, and most are not very flat. There is a good amount of distance between sites and lots of trees so privacy is good.
There are 2 clean vault toilets and trash dumpsters.
Bear boxes are spread throughout.
Each site has a fire ring and picnic table.
Host on site sells fire wood.
Lake access is a just short walk down a trail. There is a great rock beach with plenty of room for kids to play and splash.
We encountered 2 thunderstorms during our stay… Montana weather is always unpredictable.
We had a deer walk through our site early morning, so wildlife is definitely near by.
We decided to not stay here, because we are tent camping this trip. If you have an RV or Trailer, this would be a good stop if you are in Great Falls.
We spent one night here. It's a small, basic place to camp but beautiful and clean.
If you are looking for a place to sleep or a base for exploring Coeur d'Alane this is the spot.
Not a lot a privacy between sites, but they are well spread out to allow for personal space.
The Camp Host was very friendly and made rounds 3 times during our stay. They also sell firewood for $7.00 a bundle.
The toilets were very clean. Trash cans were available throughout.
Some spots are RV/trailer friendly. We even notice a few double spots.
We arrived around 4 pm and and were able to get a site.
Site 10 is nice and flat. Plenty of room for the kids to run. We also saw lots of chipmunks and rabbits.
The creek bed was totally dry when we were here.
Each site has a table and fire ring. Some have a shelter as well over the table.
We stayed here with 2 young kids and it was a great choice.
We didn't have a reservation but we got there early enough on a Sunday we found plenty of open first come spaces were available.
The toilet was clean and we'll maintained.
Site 10 is closest to the river but there are paths from most sites to walk to river access. Plenty of space for a tent and kids to play.
We didn't have a bug problem because it was cool and early enough in the season, but I suspect mosquitoes may be an issue later in the summer.
The campground was only 30% occupied. It was relaxing, quiet, lots of trees, soothing river sounds.
We stayed 1 night, but we will definitely return for a longer stay.
