Great campground - one issue

This campground is a hot spot for Des Moines to escape the weekend - with that said, reservations are a must! Most times you need to Make them six months out. It’s a fairly quiet campground - younger families mixed with older adults. Loops b, c, and mostly d have paved pads. Most spots are level so setting up is a breeze. Bathroom facilities are always clean and updated. Sites do have some space for privacy between them. Now my one complaint - there’s one dump station for a campground that is large is size and popularity. Trying to Leave on a Sunday is a good 1 hour wait …. that’s being generous ! I hate going there knowing that instead of getting to enjoy Sunday - I’ll be busy draining my pooper. :( please - more dump stations

Quiet campground

The Des Moines area has a fairly large camping population - because of this, reservations are usually necessary. The area does not have a ton of shade - so be weary in the middle of summer. Clean campgrounds - nice staff. Pads are on gravel - one downfall.

Night stop

Needed a stop for the night and this sufficed. The check in without a reservation was smooth and painless. The sites look newly rocked and clean. Our site was full hookup which was convenient. Firepits provided and they looked brand new. Location is off the interstate and you can hear it all night. There is literally not a drop Of shade - i would expect it would be hot as hell in the middle of the rock during the day. Fine for a night - nothing more.

Good location / clean

The staff was amazing and very accommodating - we were running on a tight schedule and they agreed to stay after hours to attend to us. They were so personal and easily to talk with. As stated - the sites were tight and provided no real scenery - but they were quiet, safe, clean - and best of all - great location. The public shower like being at home - amazing! Nice pet walking area. If you’re looking for more “state park” feel - this is not for you!

Nice campground

Clean - staff was friendly. Our site did not provide a view (b13) and the picnic site was behind the camper blocking any water view. Did have full facilities which was nice. If needing a quick stop - id recommend - but I wouldn’t need to go out of my way to go back here.

Views

We traveled across several states and found this to be one of our favorites. The sites were all provided with a gorgeous view of the lake and privacy from other campers. Easy access to fishing - several said they were having luck catching brown trout. Fire pits were all very clean and well taken care of. Never saw any staff - so cannot comment on helpfulness. Only complaint were the lack of facilities …. impossible to find water - we had to use a vacant site - and no dump station - and if there were showers …. I could not locate them. If you’re stopping - make sure to prepare for that! They did have fire sale on site - very reasonable!

Sprinklers

This campground is well maintained, beautiful scenery, full of amenities and friendly staff! This was an over night stop from Idaho to Iowa and was great! The area was beautiful and can’t wait to come back in the future. The negative … and it is a big one, we were sitting outside at approximately 10 pm when suddenly we hear a noise - as we adjust our eyes, we are instantly pelted with water! Apparently they are growing their grass back (trying), so they water at night. The issue was - it ruined our night. We had to go sit inside as it continued and then left our campsite a muddy mess. Other item or notation - the rv sites do not have fire rings - you need to bring your own. All in all - I did love the place and would be back.
