Red Sands

Nice campsite. It was a bit cool when we went, not too busy - which is the way we like it.  The campsite itself was nice but it could get a bit loud with all the ATVs zooming past. If you're interested they do have rentals and the park is well maintained by the state.

We stayed at site 3. Nice view of the water. We did find a giant scorpion limping past so be aware.

The dog and the kids had a lot of fun at the beach.

Nice Area

Went March 27th. The campground itself is not that nice and the bathrooms were dirty, but the area was nice. We did not use the beach in front of the campground all together since dogs were not allowed on the beach, but at night when the day-use people left, we were able to sit further away with the dog and let the kids play on the beach as we watched. Beautiful sunset over the water. The next day we did some exploring in the area close by that did allow all of us to enjoy the water together. It felt like a private little piece of paradise. If not for this I would not recommend the site. There was music through most of the night. We did not mind so much, but if you are into a quiet restful time away, this is not it. One last hint, I loved the store at the marina. They have almost anything you might need and we were able to pick up some frozen treats - made the end of a great beach day.

Probably Better For RVs Than Tents

It is hard to leave an objective review on this site but I will try. This was a last minute trip in mid-February so it was very quiet. That is how we like it. The site itself is desert dry so it lacks that wilderness feel but the bathrooms were clean and we went with friends so everyone had a good time. There was a short hike across the street where at the top you could see the lake. The surrounding area was a playground for the dog and the kids. Good cell phone reception. I am looking forward to exploring other campsites in the area.

Hidden Individual Campsites

We stayed on August 2nd. We took a chance and drove up on a Saturday. Needless to say we were afraid that we wouldn’t find a spot. We drove around for a while and finally found this spot. The group sites were closed due to the pandemic but they did have individual first come first serve sites - you had to drive in to see it.

The site worked for us as we have a rooftop tent so we always gain space and have no worries about setting up tents in the ground. Each site has a fire ring and a table. The vault toilet was a bit of a walk from our location but we were happy to have a spot, so it didn’t matter.

The views were nice and the night sky is amazing at Great Basin. Very little to no light pollution. Unfortunately we didn’t get any hiking in as we had the dog with us. Dogs are allowed at the campsite but not on a majority of the trails at Great Basin.

Agreed - A Hidden Gem

Visited on October 10th. This was a quick one night in-and-out for us but very enjoyable. The water at the lake was low and no fires due to the lack of rain in months. There were a lot of families fishing. We are more into hiking but this spot made me think about getting into fishing as well. The sites are close to each other so there isn’t much privacy but everyone was very friendly and the bathrooms and showers are amazing (we are used to primitive camping). The ranger came by to check on everyone.

This is a first come first served location with no option of reserving at this time. There are fire rings and covered tables at each site. One note of caution, there were a lot of bees. I am not sure if it was the heat and lack of moisture but it did make lunch very uncomfortable.

We really want to go back and we want to go back in the winter as well to check out everyone Ice Fishing. I would love to do some hiking. It is such an interesting area, screaming to be explored. The kids and dog loved it.
