KOA with a lot to do

Nearby fort Steven’s, short drive or long bike ride away. KOA itself has non private sites but it has a pool, bouncy blob thing, mini golf, public BBQ area with filled propane tanks in their bbqs. Lots of amenities and things to do when you aren’t out and about exploring the beach.

Depends on the site

Our site was not private and was small basically in a cul de sac. Some sites are in a more private and treed area and back up directly to the ocean - next time we will try to get one of those!

The campground is large and there is a lot of northwest beach scenery to check out if you want to bike around or take a short little drive within the campground. Bathrooms are nice, there’s a little store that has quite a bit of necessities/food/souvenirs.

Good no hookup camping

Sites are fairly large and private. Nice little hike around the small lake. Good swimming area, park, and community spaces to use. Bathrooms are quite unkept but it has flushing toilets and a shower.

Nice Trailer Camping

We had a good site that backed up to water where we could do some fishing and had good space for the dogs. I’d recommend looking into which site you have as we have had a site during previous stay that was much less usable and compact/crowded.

Available

Needed a for sure spot to camp for the night as it was getting late and this was what we came up upon. Large spots without hookups, did have fire rings, picnic table and bear proof food storage. Right off the road, so traffic was noisy. Camp host was gone the entire time we were there, but the firewood was left out with a bucket to pay and you can self pay with an envelope for your site.

Bathrooms (no running water or electricity in restrooms) and water spicket were walking distance from our spot near the entrance.

If you need a place to stay for the night on a road trip and you don’t want to risk trying for somewhere that might be full, this seemed to be a safe bet and was pleasant enough to camp out, cook dinner, and head out in the morning.

Amazing

This campground has some absolutely beautiful scenery as you would expect in Grand Teton National Park. It has access to river rock beaches with swimming at Colter bay, restaurants and gift shops (which we did not have time to explore), so much hiking and exploring you can do and yellowstone is in driving distance.

They are first come first serve so arrive early to get your spot as they fill up fast, even on weekdays. We left on a Friday at 6am before they opened for check in (in August) and when we left people were already in line in their cars waiting to get spots.

We were in loop B with a small trailer. Moderately private sites with fire ring, bear proof food safe, picnic table. Bathroom and water in easy walking distance.

Fun for Kids

Cons: Sites are small and very crammed together, no privacy and it is right off the freeway so you hear a lot of traffic depending on your site. I didn’t mark it down for this, as it is a style of camping that some people prefer.

Pros: Lots to do for young children with a large playground, two shallow (2-3ft?) small outdoor pools, one with a water slide (swim and use at your own risk, not attended), putt putt golf (water slide and putt putt extra charge), and snack bar (not well supplied, but probably due to covid). It’s a short 15ish minute drive to Shoshone falls and Dierkes Park which is also a nice perk. Friendly staff.

There is a lot of potential at this place. (Was here during covid so not sure what is normal vs changed due to covid). If this place stocked their market like a KOA, fixed up their outdoor amenities a little nicer (like the little kid pool that is out of commission by the water slide), fixed the outdoor speakers by the pool, cleaned up the putt putt, and had some more dense tree coverage between them and the freeway it would have been a 5 star review.
