Deer Ridge campground is 1 of 3 campgrounds within Hillview Rec area. It is the most popular one of the 3, it has flat sites with access to shower house and running water and 30 amp hookups. There is plenty of hiking trails, a pond for fishing or swimming, an Elk herd, 2 picnic shelters, an outdoor learning center, horseshoe pit, sand volleyball court, 2 playgrounds, and plenty of grills and picnic spots and in the winter a tubing hill. They also have 2 cabins as well.
Stopped here when I was a kid and wanted to stop again. They keep everything well maintained and have nice campsites for small units. There were larger travel trailers there but its best for tenting and smaller camping units. Bathrooms were in great shape. Hiking trails well maintained and have access to many great views. I prefer to stop here after peak season so its not so crowded. The north shore on hwy 61 is a must.
This park has great views, plenty of site choices, and clean bathrooms. Park overlooks the confluence of the Niobrara river and the Missouri River. There was an old train bridge turned into a hiking trail, very cool being so close to the river. Tented in an Adirondack shelter which was great cover from wind and rain.
