Several of the good reviews are for the state park with the same name, make sure to read the full reviews and look at the photos. Lesson learned.
I'm going to start with the good, it's short and sweet.
Good Beautiful grounds Clean-ish bathroom Clean laundry Trash can at each site Deb at the office the only one who was friendly That's it.
Now the not so good, (here me out)
Sewage the leach fields for these two sites are right next to the sites, not good if you want to spend anytime outside or sit with your windows open. Everytime someone uphill from us drained their lines it just floated our way.
The smell of sewage was so overwhelming in a two week span ( stayed only because we couldn't find anything elsewhere). That we basically stayed in the trailer all two weeks. Except for the quick walk to the water and grassy area to break our dog. Which you could smell sewage through the whole area.
Animals Dogs tied to trees and bumpers of peoples RVs, and left alone all day( mostly fill time rivers) camper's dogs wandering, had to call nothing really changed, kept happening but didn't want to be that person who called daily. No enforcement of rules that are clearly stated in the the email. Non stop barking from surrounding properties ( yes not the campsite fault) but very very noisy.
Long term residents Not the most friendly people they seem to be bothered by those who are temporary.
Did I mention the smell of sewage???
Check-in Digital check-in, some may appreciate this, but we had sever older people ask us to help them check in while we walked/ drove past the office. Offers discount for military/ Sam goody, but not online reservations, and good luck getting them on the phone to make a reservation. Asked for a adjustment on our reservation and they gave us a "campground" credit. We could use in the office for items. (They said if we don't use it, it will be refunded to our account after we leave, I'll report back on if this actually happens) Seems like they cater to long term mostly, lots of long term spots available once we got here that you couldn't see online.
Most facility closed Restaurant permanently closed, Hot tub was drained (which is inside) Pool drained ( understandable for time of year)
WiFi they say on their site that there is WiFi, there isn't.. unless you want to hang out in the office only. 😶
Light pollution Big streetlights near campsite, hard to even imagine what sitting in the woods under the stars is like.
Traffic noise Also you can really hear the noise from the highway all night long..
The reason I gave it a 3 star.. The grounds are beautiful, the laundry is clean, shower isn't to bad.
We probably won't ever stay here or recommend, which is to bad, because there is so much potential. If you decide to venture here and get one of the spots open stay away from W 17/18
We recently moved from Idaho to Tennessee, we booked two spots at Long Branch to stay for two weeks. The views are beautiful, we visited in October, nice and warm during the day cool at night perfect for fires in the morning and at night. Nice size campground clean and well kept. Bathrooms are fabulous.
No laundry at this campgrounds, internet is hit or miss if you don't have internet in your trailer. But we're on Verizon and we seem to get it very well in the morning and during the day.
All in all the site is clean, quiet, and beautiful, right at the base of a dam, and the river flowing next to us is gorgeous. Wish they stayed open all year long but they don't. We will be back early for camping on the weekends.
There is a little noise from the road but not very often only when cars pass.
We found this place on the Dyrt, it was our last hope, since all others in the area were full. Thankfully they had an opening for both our trailers.
Called and spoke to the owner Kim, she was super sweet and helpful, we pulled in right before dark and she drove us down to our spots on the waterfront.
My oh my what a beautiful view these spots have, and the price is cheap for the view and the size of the spots. We had water, electric, and sewage. We were able to stay right next to our son and daughter-in-law who were traveling with us in their trailer.
The view of the Ohio River at sunset is breathtaking, the huge maple trees in the fall and the sunset was far beyond our expectations.
Kim, is super sweet and helpful stood around and chatted with us for a little bit, gave us some history on the area and the river, and then we decided to get settled in for the night.
You could see the barges going up and down the Ohio, while looking across and seeing Illinois.
In the middle of the night you could hear the horns of the barges, which we realized they were blowing because of the fog.
Oh my when we woke up at 6:30 in the morning and open the door to see the fog rolling in and a huge barge docked right next to us on the river. The sounds that it was making were incredible it was experience that we are so glad we got to be part of.
The fog burned off about 10:00 in the morning but it made for some beautiful photos and a nice cool start to our day.
The owners are fabulous the views are exquisite and for the price and what you get you can't beat it. They haven't been open too long and they're closed for the winter, but if you get a chance to go book yourself a spot along the river do it, you won't be disappointed
We will be coming back for vacations each year.
Pulled in about 7:30pm seemed like 10, it was so dark. Lol
Had called about 3 hrs earlier and they were full, except for a family site, thankfully we were traveling with a second trailer.
Pulled up to the office and the sweetest kindest man greeted us. He was expecting us. ❤️
Paid the 40 something dollars and he hoped in his golf cart and lead us to the site.
Morning time revealed the beautiful trees and a glimpse of the lake. Beautiful sunny day with blue sky.
Didn't really get to explore the surroundings since it was just a stop over. But got some good sleep and that's all that matters when getting back on the road early.
Make sure you take the paved road in, because the back road Google takes you on is crap.
Pulled in at 7:55 and they were about to close, the attendant seemed a bit frazzled, but was polite. Gave a discount for cash payment.
We have two trailers that we're traveling with total, he got each of us in a nice pull-thru.
We didn't get to explore or check out any of the facilities but each spot has beautiful big trees that would provide shade during the summer months.
Water and electric at our sites. Dump site on grounds. Was a nice place to feel safe for the night.
Traffic from the highway was not to bad.
Cane's chicken right down the road and Dunkin donuts for morning.
Amazing, clean place. Friendly kind staff, helpful and funny. Great stop for part-time or full time living. Close to everything.
While heading to Tennessee in mid October, the I-80 closed closed down due to weather and car wrecks. Came up into Evanston and found ourselves in the middle of 100s of big rigs parking on the road in all Lanes, we were able to find an opening and flip around onto the other side of the freeway and backtrack to the small town of Evanston, where 100s more big rigs, rvers and travelers were trying to find respite for the night. We hopped on the Dyrt and we're able to get two spots for the night. Water and electric and sewage. 35$ a night. It was a safe spot to lay our heads and wait out the storm.
Little did we know that the next day we would need to stay again after leaving at 11 and finding out the road was still closed and not opening till 4pm. With high wind warning and blowing snow we decided to stay a second night. Was a great spot. There are train tracks somewhat close, so if that bothers you keep going. We rather enjoy them.
Didn't use showers, but did laundry and the facility was nice and clean, plenty of washers and 3 big dryers with a wash sink.
Ground we're nicely kept.
Visited October 12/13
We came from Idaho to Tennessee in May for two weeks and this was our first campsite. We fell in love with peaceful walks along the river, watching the ducks and birds along with a few turtles 🐢. Coffee just hits you different when watching the sun shimmer on a glass lake. Bathrooms are very clean, dump station is easy to access, the people were kind. Make sure you walk around the whole place and see the most beautiful HUGE old tree. Just standing under it's branches makes you feel so small, but so safe. Can't wait to visit again, could have stayed forever.
We stayed 5 days at this beautiful campsite, we were pleased to find the facilities clean with hot water, washer and dryer on site.
RV pads are well maintained. There's plenty of trees though some pads have only direct sun.
Found out once we got there that the connection for LTE is pretty sporadic, sometimes you can connect to their unsecured Wi-Fi, but they prefer you not to.
Sites 51 and 52 are a shared pull through site, so if you book one of them, you will more than likely have people you don't know backed up right close next to you.
Buck is the main guy at the gate him and his wife run it and they are a wealth of information for the surrounding area. They also are a hoot to talk to.
The Marina isn't far from the campsite just across the street, they have ice and firewood along with food and drinks.
Not far from the site is a small fruit stand, ask Buck about it he'll tell you exactly how to get there. They have homemade pastries, jellies and jams, along with some amazing fried pies.
Our stay at defeated campground was pleasant, we met some very nice people from Texas.
The walk around the grounds in the early morning and late nights once the sun goes down is very peaceful.
If you plan to go hiking on the trails that are surrounding the area please know that there heavily wooded areas with ticks, we found out the hard way. Make sure you have plenty of repellent and/or dress properly for the woods and surrounding area.
We would stay again. Can't wait to go back.
This park was our first park to ever camp at, lucked out and caught an opening in the middle of the pandemic, booked it online and left 4 days later for a week of bliss in the woods. My first time to northern Idaho, it's absolutely breathtaking The lake itself is beautiful surrounded by tall pines and Lilly pads. The hiking trails are easy for all ages, though the big loop is something to take slow, and bring plenty of water to drink. The bullfrogs at night help you drift off to sleep. It rained 3 nights when we were there and it was some of the best sleep we've ever had. We had a rooftop tent on our 4 runner and it for perfect in the tent site. You don't have to be an rv to rent a site with water and electricity. It's definitely a spot we will add to our yearly travels.
What a beautiful place, and location to spend a week in October. With all the fall colors in full display, brisk evening air perfect for a fall fire to warm yourself. We could not have picked a better week to stay in October. Great walking paths to view all kinds of wildlife along the river. Met the owner who also owns the Ashley inn right in town, though it was chili at night, and our pipes froze the last night, it was the best October birthday week we have had in a long time. If they were open year-round and our rig was good in the snow, we would be up there every month. Beautiful views, great weather, and we always go and eat at the whistle stop Cafe in town, give their pizza a try.
