Great little space . . . .

I have been coming here on and off for over 20 years. Coulee Playland Resort is on the short of Banks Lake. It is kind of a low budget KOA with a playground for kids.

Start off with, the service is excellent here. The whole area revolves around the store. They sell everything from ice cream cones to any type of fishing tackle you could possibly need. They also rent pontoon boats, jet ski’s, and 12 to 16 foot boats with engines. The fish and banks lake range from 8 foot sturgeon’s all the way down to rainbow trout. It’s a hotspot for walleye tournaments throughout the year. Do you need a fishing license to fish at banks lake, but you can also fish from right outside your tent if you would like.

All the tent sites are on grass, although the further out you are from the store the more the campsites are on a slope. They have restrooms, and showers, but not a lot of showers.

Coulee Playground revolves around the store. If you fish on Banks Lake, you will probably meet at the store to discuss what you caught, where, but never give away your secret tackle:).

There is a lot of things to do here. You can rent a boat and go out and see the miles and miles of banks lake. Maybe fish, or just enjoy the sun. Or, you can take your family down and watch the nightly laser light show from spring through fall that is projected on the side of Grand Coulee dam.

I have never gone to this place and not come away feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Lastly, I have never been there when I did not see a spectacular sunset on one of the nights. It is enough to take your breath away. I highly recommend a couple nights a year at this wonderful place. I got your dress is

New Favorite . . .

This place is on my shortlist for favorites for my week long getaway with my daughter who is 5. To be honest I was a bit concerned after reading a couple reviews describing the place. But hey, we all have bad days, and if I can read 90% positive vibe from a review I will check it out. I will say This place is an oasis that is in a manufactured home area that is very nice. Once you are in, it is a pure KOA experience. So far no company consistently does better than OK always across the board.

Could not be happier with the customer service, and the staff that work here. Just simply top notch. They represent the true spirit of the KOA campgrounds. they lead you to your campsite, they will deliver wood for you, they monitor the pool at all times, make it easy to rent a little bike, and Wednesday through Saturday they have ice cream socials.

I was a bit surprised that I did not see more children here. They have all the amenities that they have in Billings. I think some of the other reviews do not paint a quality picture of this place from a child’s eye. This is my daughters favorite place. From the bike rental to the playground, putt putt golf, swimming pool (2 Adult hot tubs - very clean).

Of course as Tenters the big thing I look at is where I am pounding in my stakes :-) and the grass here in Missoula is perfect. They have several very creative approaches to tent sites. The one that I am staying at has a tent circle, five sites in the round, facing outward, fenced on each side with a picnic table, stand up barbecue, fire pit that is grated, picnic table, running water, electricity, and nice grass. I wish more campgrounds had this creative approach. Everything is well spread out and segregated between cabins, centers, and RV’s.

They even have two really nice teepees in the center of the campground. They are super deluxe and the next time I come here I will be staying in one of them. See the photos.

The campground store is the best stock store of all the KOA’s that I stayed in on this trip. They have everything from ice cream sandwiches to souvenirs.

The facilities are well-maintained and very clean. I’d like the cypher locks on the bathrooms/showers for safety. The driveways are well-maintained, they have a painted bike path for riders. Overall this was just wonderful!

If you have a couple days here I would suggest a 40 minute drive to the National Bison Range. The kids will love it!

PS - My daughter wanted me to add that they have three very large bunnies that roll around the campground. She loves them.

Strong like . . .

My daughter(5) and I are tenters. We love the KOA campsites for their amenities and generally above primitive camping features. This KOA at Mountainside does not have a lot of Kids stuff to do like a lot of other places. Of course all my reviews will hold the buildings KOA as the standard bear for camping with kids. But getting back to Mountainside, it only has a playground, but the staff is really really good. We were in tent site number one which they said was unlevel, but it was fine. It backed right up to the stream that gave an incredible calming sound all night long. There were two fire pits and electrical. It is spread out, lots of tent spaces, the bathroom facilities were excellent.

The store was well stocked, and not overly priced. They have a pizza place that I have heard was excellent, but we did not try it.

I continue to be impressed with the KOA experience (with the exception of the West Yellowstone KOA).

Ugh, yucky customer service

I don’t like to leave bad reviews where I have not stayed. But, any review of a place should start with customer service.

I emailed this KOA requesting a tent say. I half-hour later I received an email back saying there were two sites but that I needed to call to reserve. I called promptly spoke to a person named Judy, her demeanor was less than encouraging. I relayed to her what the email had said and she barked at me and said we don’t send emails concerning availability. I said but I have one right here saying that you do have two tent sites. She said maybe we do have two tent sites but we don’t take emails, then she promptly slam the phone down and hung up on me. I emailed back and explain the situation at which point I was told sorry all tent sites are now unavailable.

Times like this I wonder, was it me? But I also realize that the year 2020, social distancing, pandemic, is also causing a rush on outdoor tent sites. There is stress all around. But, common courtesy should always prevail when you are customer facing.

The Original KOA . . .

Quite possibly our favorite campsite so far on our trip to Yellowstone. This is the original KOA established in 1962, and believe me they have it down to an art AND a science. The place is incredibly organized, the staff is amazing. They have all the amenities that will make your stay truly memorable for you and your family. They have a large swimming pool, and a hot tub, and a great little putt putt golf course. The tent sites were very comfortable, they are on grass, with grated fire pits.

I’ve never been to a place that had so many bathrooms, and showers. There was never a line at any time. The laundry facilities were immaculate, and always available.

This KOA truly sets the bar for a safe environment for you and your family. The only challenge that I had was trying to get my daughter to leave. She was happy staying there versus going to see Yellowstone park!

Hidden Gem . . .

This was the first trip that I had taken to Yellowstone in 25 years. Having just acquired my Dryt app, I was anxious to explore campsites along the way. Traveling with a five-year-old I needed to be flexible and see how far I could go in a day.

We made it to St Regis Campground. It is a beautiful little oasis, complete with a friendly staff, and very well maintained. Plus was the fact that they had a swimming pool, and a swingset for my daughter. The tent sites all had electrical hook ups as I could tell.

I will caution you that there was no shortage of mosquitoes in the area, but the person at the store pointed me in the direction of an excellent insect repellent.

There’s plenty of food and great little restaurants in Saint Regis about five minutes away. I’m looking forward to staying there again
