This is definitely one of my favorite campgrounds. Most sites are on the water. While the crowds go to 12 mile or hurricane river I come here for serenity. It's very peaceful all day and the loons at night is a special treat. Beautiful sunsets. Decent water pump and privvys could be better but I don't keep my expectations too high on those. All in all awesome place to stay.
For free camping with privvys, firepits, picnic tables and pump water, You can't beat this campground with a stick. Has a water pump. The privvys are actually in good shape and do not stink. However it was good I had TP because they did not have enough. I had the site as soon as you pull in. It had a path to the water and sunset was beautiful. This will become a go to for me.
We love the history of the campground with the bay furnace within the limits. Where they used to smelt iron in a 150 year old furnace is fascinating. The views are incredible overlooking lake superior, grand island and its smaller brother islands. Swimming beach provided and a smaller day use area is also a available. Camp ground has 53 sites. Most are reservations, however there are plenty of first come first serve sites here. No lake sites for FF. Drinking water is super clean and fresh and the privys are cleaned each morning and are kept immaculate and smelling nice. The privacy is good between sites however the crowd here isn't looking for privacy but more so close proximity to attractions. If you want serenity go elsewhere, which warrants my 4 star rating.
Nice rustic campground located just north of west branch. No showers, privy is is decent shape. Not the worst not the best. Several lake front sites to choose from with excellent views. There is a public boat launch here. There is an ORV trailhead here as well so the majority of the campers here are off road enthusiasts. Sad to to see the gypsy moths have decimated a majority of the trees in this campground.
Close to the house if I need a quick camping fix. Very clean restrooms and hot showers. The campsites on the hilltop used to be our favorite in the fall. They put cabins on them last year which for us is disappointing. Lots of trails throughout. Have even hiked in from the beach to camp for a night.
I love coming here. Nice little hike in sites. No need to hike 7 miles if you don't want to. There are a couple other parking options from 1-2 miles in and out. Have stayed in a variety of sites here. B3 is my favorite. Right on the water, beautiful views. B10 is awesome and slightly secluded from the others.. Not much privacy between alot of the sites and you have the hiking/mtb trail behind you. Need to source your own firewood, area is fairly picked over, has fresh water pump. Fairly clean vault toilet.
This place is just gorgeous. Right on lake huron, the lake side sites fill up fast. The sites are tucked in just enough to eliminate traffic noise but super close to markets and fuel. Clean privy. Drinking water isn't the best but it would be tougher if there was none.
This place rarely gets busy. Nice sites with great views of Avery lake. Clean privy, cold water. Quiet. Alot of state forest roads to explore around here
Not bad for a state park. Resembles more of a parking lot to me. Sites aren't very roomy. If you want a lake side spot you need to reserve very well in advance. Shower and restroom facilities could use an upgrade. Water levels were high during our stay so the beach was very small. However it's nice they have a beach to walk to, good for kids. Beautiful sunsets here.
Made a quick overnight stop while road tripping with beautiful wife. Very nice lakeside campsites. Little on the pricey side for me. Edging a little bit towards the style of the Michigan state parks, which isn't my scene. None the less, sites were nice and facilities were clean.
Gorgeous area right on Jewell lake. Walking distance from Barton City. Sites have nice privacy between them. Utilized the grill on the fire ring alot Privy was well kept. The lake had a beach area to swim. Didn't actually intend on staying here but it was a happy accident and salvaged our memorial day weekend.
Close to Iron Mountain but tucked away in the woods enough to be secluded. We stayed during the week and we're the only site occupied. Very peaceful, lake was very nice
Very clean and quiet campground. Very close to the town of Marenisco. Road noise was minimal but I wish it was tucked off the road a bit more. Lake view was nice
Lots of nice pull through sites. Excellent for truck campers. The lake views for sunsets we're amazing. Vault toilet across from site 6 must be new as it was very nice for what it is. Our firepit tipped over with the weight of the grill swung out. Town of Two Harbors is 26 miles (30 min) away, so don't forget anything.
