I liked it but it was rather busy. Did mount Belford close by and whew that one is tough! Overall decent campground. Tons of spots and the road isn’t too tough. Saw some people with cars. The roads just pretty bumpy
About a 5 mile backpack trail that leads you to the hot springs. They can be hard to find but it’s along side of the creek with rocks stacked around to make a pool which is the springs. The hikes through some burnt forest but is still gorgeous nonetheless. There’s a few spots at the springs to sleep at for the night to have the springs for yourself. Definitely recommend this one!
Compared to the other popular campground in the state park this is way less crowded. There’s tons of trails to do along the lakeshore and none are really far from one another. I grew up in NWI so I didn’t camp in Indiana often but I did here and loved it! There are a bunch of raccoons that can come steal food so beware of that! Overall nice though!
Tried to get a late reservation in Rocky and couldn’t so I stayed here. It was pretty nice! Ton of spots and has some pretty fews. Sits are spread out a lot. Didn’t see or really hear anyone all night.
I loved it. This was the first ever campground I went to in Colorado and had a blast! It’s right on the creek and where I stayed was right outside of the entrance. Only other site was across the road which was nice. The woman who worked at maroon bells 2 years ago when I went was incredibly rude and lazy though. Didn’t want to take 5 seconds to see what availability they had and made me come back when the next girl started her shift……. It’s awesome though. Super close to aspen and snow mass. Definitely recommend it.
I liked it a lot! It was my dogs first ever camping experience and he loved it. There was an insane amount of dogs there at the time which kinda sucked but it was cool! The roads a little rough but nothing super crazy! The falls are gorgeous. I tried to take my dog here who’s kind of old and is just getting into camping since we moved here but he slipped into the creek and had enough of it lol. Some of the people are incredibly rude too seeing as how it’s a one way to the falls and they might as well push you out of the way to see it. Other than that it was great though!
I’ve always loved this place ever since I got to bear watch here for hours. My girlfriend and I got extremely lucky while sitting on the river. We saw 5-6 different bears come down to take a drink! They’d come down and head right back up it was incredible. Some of the sites you have to park up above and walk in but it’s not a huge deal. Some are pretty close to one another but it’s definitely worth it. It’s cool to be able to be at the bottom of the canyon all day as well.
This area is gorgeous and there’s so much to do. Definitely need 4x4 to get here but it’s so awesome! I’ve been wanting to go back this year but just haven’t gotten the chance. Went here last year and hiked tabor creek trail just down the road. There’s a bunch of actual sites until you get farther down the road and it turns into dispersed camping. Plenty of spots so no need to be right on top of one another!
Part of the “camping sites” are just a parking lot with the hang out spots being grass on the outside. There definitely are some cool spots but way too expensive for what it is. The lakes really pretty though! We had something chomping in the woods very loudly by our site so we headed in early lol. It was a cool spot to stay if you need somewhere within distance of rainier but I think anyone could find something better.
It was really cool honestly! I went during Memorial Day weekend and got one of the last spots on Saturday morning! It was really packed since it was the holiday weekend but it was very pretty otherwise. The lake being right there is super cool. Walking distance from anywhere on site.
Very minimal shade and very hot in June but it’s definitely a good spot to stay. The spots aren’t that close to one another I’ve definitely had worse. It’s right at the beginning of the north side of Theodore Roosevelt and a good stop to stay at while visiting the park. We even saw a couple Buffalo in the campground! Big horn cows also come and visit often.
The road to get here especially once you get to the chinns lake turn off is definitely not by any means easy. Pretty narrow and especially with all the rain there’s quiet a few places that are rough. Definitely doable but just need to go slow. The lakes are gorgeous and there are plenty of spaces to camp. Went 8/4-8/5 and only 1 other campground was filled all night. A lot of people seem to go during the day so it’s definitely very quiet afterwards.
