Surprising Treat

Located in the Hudson River Valley south of Albany lies this nice and clean campground . Very clean bathrooms , firewood can be delivered to your campsite as well as Ice . The staff and CAP’s they are in the campground were very friendly . Large playground , boat ramp and hiking / biking trails . It’s sits under some extremely large cottonwood trees and there is a abundance of wildlife . We were told the place can be quite busy during peak times but we were there during the week . Highly recommend a visit . Water is available at different spots in the campground but not at the sites .

Summer Scene

Stayed here on a Sunday afternoon into Monday . I use to come as a young child and the campground still looks great . Nice hosts , solid Verizon cell service . Clean bath house . Many areas to access the water throughout the campground . Boat ramp is just around the corner .

Could be Special

A great little spot with water and electric , pull through and some back in sites . It was very warm but we knew that , would go back in different seasons , easy place to walk to to fish and or swim opposite of the boat ramp . Quiet hardly any through traffic , good Verizon service with our booster . Clean bathrooms and showers .

Great Summer Heat Retreat

We have stayed here many times in te summer heat . The Norfork river provides great cool breezes early and late during the day . Fishing is. Eat when the generators start drop water levels and early mornings without generation. Excellent Verizon 5g

Great Backcountry Area

I’ve ridden a bike through here several times over the years and finally we got to stay here . Super quiet when we were there in March . Toilet could be cleaner but at least it’s there . Nice creek view through the side of the campground , likely no cell service unless you go one way or another up the mountain . Many places to explore on bike or hiking . Super remote area , ride were in decent shape , I could see them being bad after a heavy storm . Gravel 7 miles to here .

Spectacular Place

This is a great place to visit . Trailers under 20’ only , steep road and switchbacks up the mountain . No RV’s will make it . Also home to a Monument Trail mountain biking system that’s is world class . There is a swimming pool showers and hiking for days . Only the park store is on top of the mountain . Hike in camp sites are available , group sites and 30 amp hookups with water . Some sites are a little un level . Spend some time here , you will not regret it . Most cell carriers work well up here

Lakeside Views

One of the few lakes where residential housing is not allowed on the water . Really nice area with decent bathrooms , nothing special . Lots of hiking and biking nearby and a couple good restaurants at the marinas .

Stunning Knifes Edge Campground

This is a unique eco system high in the north Georgia mountains . Lots of hiking and views to take in . Clean facilities and nice staff .

Great Views

Great campsites along the river , cold water trout stream makes the air temp several degrees lower . The hatchery is across the road and you can easily access Norfork Lake a short drive away . Clean bathrooms and not a lot of traffic

Fall Colors

This is one of our go to areas , no power at sites , water only , decently clean bath house . Lake access and hiking everywhere . Park rangers are quite nice here . We had a scout troop staying in the campground which I found odd as there are three specific scout areas . Beautiful fall colors

Surprisingly Nice

Small little area on the river with nice pull through sites and some additional parking. We just needed a place to park the van for the night and it stormed one of the worsts nights we have stayed out in . 2 bath houses , cleanish . Boat ramp access to the river . If you find Gloria’s Kitchen she will cook you whatever you want .. would stay here again , not far off I-10

Annoyingly Large

Camp host made sure to wake us up the first thing that morning about our lack of hangtag . We were just staying the night while traveling .There were none at the gate and the office was closed . Dumpsters very 100’ along the campground roads . I bet this place is a zoo in the summer . Decent showers and the gift shop / store was nice as was the lady running it . Not sure I would return because of the rude state park staff though .. to bad , nice access to the river ..

Easy Place to ge to

Used this campground as we left Big Bend . Ft Davis is a quaint little town . Getting food at a restaurant is a task . Nice grocery though and hardware store . The park is fairly clean , the lodge and hotel were very minimally supplied but they were about to renovate it . Clean showers except my wife got locked in the bathroom ..

Upper Madera 4 , Overlook view

Pretty close to the highway but mostly quiet . Many coyotes and javelina . Lajitas is just down the road with a good store . The state park is less traveled than Big Bend National Park . The view from this campsite was quite nice . Overlooks the Rio Grande and Lower Madera campsites . Pit toilets were new down low and the upper one was under construction , no water .

Dark Sky

A great little town to launch your adventure into Big Bend , French Grocer is a great place . Nice showers and WiFi here as well as power and water if needed . We stayed in the back and had a quiet evening . Highly recommend for this passing through

Views for Days

Spectacular views from the campground , excellent hiking . Decent store and restaurant up at the lodge . Water available , sites are a little uneven in places but worth it . Emory peak at daylight is amazing if you have it in you .

Christmas 22 Trip

This was a halfway stop between Tennessee and Big Bend . Large campground with nice facilities and trails . Unfortunately it rained the nights we passed through . Nice place in the off season . I bets it’s packed in the summer

Christmas 2022

This was a perfect experience on our trip south through Big Bend . Spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day here . Water is gravity fed . Awesome place near the Santa Elena Canyon . Quiet dark and safe

Perfect Timing

There was barely anyone here when we visited in April , new pit toilets , water was not available and no power . The road getting there does vary in surfaces but our van made it fine no issues . Great hiking and scenery and it was very quiet at night . Cleaned up a mess someone left behind and watched another couple doing the same . Likely not a summertime destination for us but plenty of water you could go and cook off in .

Syllamore , Our Favorite Area

We have spent years biking , fishing and hiking this area . Beautiful in the early spring early summer and fall and winter . Summer can be a little warm and you may find a tick or 2 . Clean campgrounds , 1 fault is they do allow generators ..Amazing scenery to be found when you leave the campground . The cavern tour is a must see it’s one of the best around . Visited end of March
