Submersed in the forest

Black Canyon is the type of campground I remember visiting as a child in the NW. Heavily wooded, sites tucked in. Not on top of each other directly, but close enough to have a group camp and be distanced. Vault toilets were clean. Some sites weren’t level, so if you’re in a RTT or RV, be sure to have plenty of leveling tools. Only stayed one night and didn’t get to hike or explore. If you aren’t used to elevation, the camp sits up 8400 feet, it’ll take a bit more time to do normal activities. This Florida gal had to learn to slow down. 😉

Epic!

Upon entering the park, the descent down into the canyon is an amazing experience. The colors on the canyon walls and panoramic landscapes are breathtaking. The campsite was great! Had a picnic area with a pergola that overlooked the natural beauty. Bathrooms were clean and nice. It was nearly a full moon, so at night, the entire canyon lit up!

Be wary of tarantulas. They tend to stay out of the way, but something to be mindful of. We saw deer and turkeys too! Only stayed one night, but planning a trip back to stay several nights to explore and hike the area.

Great spot in the middle of the Plains

It’s interesting upon driving across flat plains and arriving at a canyon in the middle of it all! Only stayed one night. Was able to take a short hike to the canyon “rim”. The bathrooms were ok, clean at least. From what I could tell, there is only one pond along one big red rock wall and near the bathroom. The pond looked scummy and wouldn’t want to fish it. There may have been more opportunities for fishing, but I didn’t see any. Bugs were bad, thermacell worked great for the mosquitoes. Lots of flies.

Nice waterfront sites

Nice campgrounds. Clean bathrooms. Expect bugs, I had a Thermacell for mosquitos that worked great for them. The water hyacinths were in full bloom on the ponds driving in and along the backside of the camp.

Great site along Chester Creek

Stayed at a great spot along the old Chester Creek Rd bridge crossing the creek. Short 2.5 mile hike to Long Creek Falls off the AT. Three forks is only 1.4 miles away. Camped for three nights. Be sure to pack up ALL trash, food and water before sleeping or leaving camp. There are bears that like to rummage through your stuff looking for food.

Quiet escape

Fantastic place within the forest along the Chauga River. Vault toilet was clean and maintained. Most campsites are River side
