Nice Camp ground, they moved tent camping up close to road, they used to be next to Pigeon River but now those are premium RV spots. It's closest camping to Dollywood. Storm blew through and flattened our tent, KOA refunded the cost of the last night as we were unable to stay.
Me, wife, 19 year old daughter and her best friend stayed at Elkmont May 1st through the 5th, primitive tent camping. Quiet, bathrooms are clean, small state run upply store on sight. Historically significant due to resort that used to be there, with ruins to see, and was a logging community returned to nature when S.M.N.P. was formed. Close proximity to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Hiking trails, waterfalls, and Cades Cove. Well run and staffed camp. Lots of spaces available for RV or tents. Cheap. Saw one very young bear less than a mile from camp. Only gripe, it has lighted bathrooms with power, the park could have hot showers, there are no showers.
Davidson River campground is huge, yet you feel like you are in your own private nook in Pisgah N.F. the layout and forrest work to make your site very private from your neighboring site. Best part about this campbis it's proximity to Sliding Rock, a natural waterslide over a 60 ft boulder in the river that is as fun as it is amazing. And the many other hiking trails that lead to other beautiful waterfalls. Looking glass falls is a site to see and play in the water. Whole family had fun on this trip and it was our second time at Davidson River Campground. Day trips into Asheville and to Biltmore Estate are easy as well. My favorite part is this campground is only a mile or two from the ranger station with educational stuff and a good souvenir shop in one direction and town in the other with restraunts, grocery store, Wal-Mart, fishing outfitters, and bicycle shops.
Camping on Cumberland island for 8 days is an experience you will never forget. It rained every day while we were there and past clothing not drying it was still an amazing trip. Wild horses running on the beach is something to see. The ruins of an 1800s mansion built by a Carnagie that burned in 1959 is also one of those mysterious places that conjure emotions and kick the imagination in gear. Palm trees filling in the canopy of the largest stand of live oaks left in U.S. that all have spanish moss hanging in them like no movie production set designer could ever replicate make you feel like you time jumped to a jurassic age. Armadillo are scurrying around minding their own business dragging their noses through the sandy dirt eating ant trails and the only problem to deal with is Raccoons have learned how to unzip tents when they are unoccupied. Food will dissapear if you dont use the bear boxes each site has for food storage. Walking out on beach from tent every morning just to watch the sun rise over the Atlantic ocean while crab boats chug along being part of the scenery as the sun rises, you are first and only person on an 18 mile long beach until around 10 a.m. 7 out of 8 mornings, which means you get first dibs on shells left for you by mother nature overnight. I recommend this camp to everyone. Mosquitos are not as bad as we were told.
This is the nicest camp ground I have ever stayed at. Every thing about Creekfire Motor Ranch is elegance, from the beautiful coastal heritage style architecture to the tree lined entrance. The atmosphere is tranquil and I don't think I have found a campground safer for families and children of all ages ever. Children reeled in fish back to back and everyone here is looking out for their neighbor. Very limited tent camping but if you can get a tent spot, it's on a dock over the water. I just woke about 30 minutes ago and can say, I slept like a baby. This camp has a restraunt, water park with more being added, and great live music last night on Sat night. They deliver firewood if you call and request.
