Stop #3 winter escape from 2/2/22 - 2/9/22. The campground is extremely clean and well kept. Volunteers and staff very friendly. All the sites had vegetation in between with lots of privacy. There was at least one site available the entire time we were here. We made reservations 11 months in advance. The boardwalk was closed while we were here but only saw work being done on one of those 7 days! Still not a far drive to get to the beaches which are spectacular. There’s road noise yes and Destin is a very expensive area of Florida. Not much for trails nearby but the beach makes up for it

We were here 1/27/22 - 2/2/22 for stop 2 on our 3 month winter escape The campsites themselves are quite close together and not much for vegetation between them. Excellent clean bathrooms and locking individual shower rooms. Several little trails for dog walking. Good recycling set up. Lots of wildlife and easy walking access to miles of gorgeous beaches IMO sites # 29-30 -31 would be great. We will definitely be back. Also we were able to make a reservation in 10/21 for this time in late January with no problem

This was our first stop on a 3+ month winter escape We were here 1/23/22 - 1/27/22. Great rate of $11/ night with the senior pass and included water and electric Very clean restrooms and individual shower rooms with locking doors. Good heat and pressure. A bit noisy here with neighborhood barking dogs, and trains and basically inside a residential area Another reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the lack of recycling Check out Biloxi and Ocean Springs beaches and the Craft Advisory brewery

We stayed here for our annual family and friend camping event. We had group sites 52 and 53. The group sites are not much bigger than regular sites at many campgrounds I've been to. They are also very picky about the number of "wheels" on each site. This is specified on the rules when you reserve and they aren't kidding. There is a campground host on each loop. We were on the Hardwoods Loop which did not have electricity but several other loops did. Our sites were lake side so it was nice to have a path to walk down to get to the boats right there.

All sites are heavily wooded in all the loops so solar is not a good option here. The fish cleaning house is nice and there were many pan fish caught by our group. There is lots of room between most sites and lots of wooded area between our site and the lake. There are very few houses on this flowage as it primarily belongs to the national forest. There is a bar nearby that sells very expensive ice and has a small bait shop but we didn't mind supporting the locals.

There is a dump station here and potable water available. Flush toilet  and shower buildings on several loops but No Soap or hand dryer. The Feds are all worried about COVID but you don't get soap and when we left it in the bathroom for our use, the rangers threw it away! Go figure! All in all a good place

There were dumpsters here for garbage as well as recycling so please save your plastic, glass and cans to place into the recycle bin

We didn't actually get to stay here because we didn't make reservations in time. (Would have been here in February 2021) On a drive through, there are tons of sites, some wooded and some not and lots of trails, bird watching opportunities etc. If we ever come back to Texas we will try to reserve way ahead of time!! We would definitely want to camp here

There's a little confusion when you drive in to this campground. As another reviewer states, the entrance into Lower Madera is not clear although Upper is well marked.

The lower campground has a loop of sites #1 to 15 and then 2 separate, much larger sites #16 and #17. You make a reservation on line for a site, but you are not assigned one; you simply show up and pick one. We felt like surely #16 and #17 must be specially reserved as why would anyone want to be in the loop of 15 if one of these others were available!! We ended up taking #16 as it was empty and  the people in #17 later told us the previous campers had just left when we pulled in thus its availability.

The drawback to 16 and 17 is there is a constant parade of canoe outfitters coming in and out to drop off and pickup canoes which is why I took one star off for this review and why the loop may be preferred. However the sites are so much bigger with more privacy and close to the toilets'. Not sure why there are two toilets' down here and none on Upper Madera.  Be sure to bring plenty of water.  We came here after leaving Tascate in the Interior of the BBRSP so after leaving there we went to Fort Leaton and checked in for Lower Madera instead of going all the way over to Barton Warnock.

We were here 2/26/21 until 3/5/21 Daytime highs anywhere from 60 to 90 and lows mid 30 to mid 50 at night. Always Windy.

We were here 2/20/21 to 2/26/21. Weather was great, mid 70's during the day, 40 to 50 at night. 

Horrible roads, takes forever to get anywhere! We loved the Isolation, saw very few people unless we went into the Ranger Station. Bathrooms and showers very clean, although never used showers. Bring tons of water! Can get more at Ranger station and also decent WIFI there. Free Ice is a huge bonus!

Had Texas Longhorns in camp. We have a Truck Camper on a Silverado 3500 and originally reserved Yedra 1. We were talked out of that site by a ranger and ended up in Tascate 1 instead which was just fine. We tried driving into Yedra later in our stay and turned around, so glad we didn't end up there.

Trails are plentiful and fantastic. The scenery fantastic. Be sure to bring everything you need food and alcohol wise!

Also, if you have the Texas state park pass, you don't pay the daily fees and you get discounted camping on at least one night plus discounts on gift store items. Was well worth it

We stayed here 2/13/21 to 2/18/21 during the Texas Extreme Cold and Snow event!

We had originally planned to go to Junction after our time in Lockhart State Park, but wanted to get further South away from the snow and cold. We easily switched our reservation to here although it was supposed to be full. Due to the weather, very few people around. Sites are huge. Had water and power at our site and we were close to restroom. We were in #108 which was also a Handicap site. After a day or so the water froze up so the bathrooms were closed as they were flush toilets' with showers. Luckily we filled our tank so we had water to use. We lost power for about 12 hours total but then got it back. It was down to 15 degrees a couple nights and we got a little snow and ice but we survived being from Wisconsin LOL

Also just down from us was a Bird Sanctuary where they put out fruit and seed. The Bird watching all over the park was fantastic. Not sure what's going on in the area where the buildings and nature center are, pretty run down and seem almost vacated. Saw tons of deer and feral hogs and Javelin  and roadrunners etc. 

Didn't plan to come here but really glad we did!

We were here 2/8/21 to 2/13/21. We had 2 decent days and then the bad weather began. We golfed 18 one of the days, fun layout, not in the best shape right now but the price was right. With the Texas pass you also get a discount on golf and anything else you buy. Lots of short trails, close to town. Our loop had power and water at the sites. It was pretty quiet due to impending horrible weather.

Small park close to town and be sure to get some BBQ, lots of choices in town!

We stayed here 2/5/21 to 2/8/21. It was the first actual RV park we ever stayed at. We normally go to state parks or national forests or Boondock.  Could get really spoiled with full hookups including WIFI! The staff was super friendly, the place was spotless.  It was really windy which seems to be normal in Texas! Beautiful pool and hot tub area. Laundry facility very clean. There was a free super bowl party in the community room. Tons of deer. We greatly enjoyed their Disc golf course. Close to Inks Lake State Park where we would have stayed but glad we ended up here!

We camped here 1/31/21 to 2/5/21. Sites were good sized and shaded which was a slight issue for our solar panel but there are other sites without shade. About 200 yards to the little store/office where you can get some WIFI and water is also there. No power or water at sites. We loved the trails and all the birds and armadillos. Tried fishing along the river without much luck. Bundle of wood and bag of ice for $10. Great Radio station 96.3

Long ways in and out of this park and from towns so make sure you bring all you need

We didn't actually camp here. We were camped nearby at Possum Kingdom State Park and came here to check things out. The sites were large, wooded with privacy. Lots of cool trails. Lots of birds around the lake.

We stayed here January 26 -31, 2021 on the first stop of a 3 month escape from Northern Wisconsin winter. I’m guessing it’s great when it’s warm and you have a boat. It was always windy. Concessions store closed for remodeling. Construction on cabin near our site. Nice bathrooms, shower water not super hot. Nice trails and tons of birds. A bunch of guys cleaning their catfish at a cleaning station near our site. Left a ton of carcasses that the rangers cleaned up. If you plan to use Texas state parks, get the pass as it will save you lots of money!

Nice sites, kind of close together. Steep boat ramp and not much to the lake. Nice little golf course very close by.

As long as it’s July or early August , it will be beautiful here. Watch out for the wind coming off the lake any other time!

Small campground managed the same as the campground at twin bear. Showers must be something new, they were not here previously but I see them listed on the website. Pretty quiet, nice lake. Tons of bugs as some of the sites are next to “swampy” areas. Close to other nicer lakes and national forest

We’ve camped here at least 3 times, the last in the north group site in July 2017. Biggest drawback is having to buy firewood, not allowed to cut any in the park. Otherwise, it’s clean, lots of nice amenities like fish cleaning building, showers and nice boat ramp. Great Lake to boat on and Zorbas on the lake is fun

We had a group in sites 17-18-19 the weekend of June 26-27, 2020. We boated in and some people also walked in with more equipment. Beaches are sandy and sites large and with 3 reserved it was very isolated. The 3 sites had one porta potty to share which was fine since we were all together. Only drawback was the bar across the lake was blasting music late into the night so sleeping was affected. There was also noise from boatloads of people leaving at bar close. Never saw any of the actual campground since we boated right to the site

There are 3 separate loops for camping at this park. We stayed in #19 which is in area 2. We reserved through the park website the week before due to Covid, all sites had to be reserved ahead. It says these are tent sites but we had our truck camper no problem. We also pulled our boat right up to our site even though it said the site wasn’t waterfront. Great site, nice toilet, no showers. Boat landing very close by in another of the camping loops. Very close to waterfalls. Quiet. Lost a star because it’s very difficult to find, no signage along the road. Great body of water. Bar restaurant in sight of campground but no noise associated with that. We stayed 9/25/20 to 9/28/20

A group of us camps here about every other year. This year we were here late July in sites 1,2,3,4 and 6. All are heavily wooded and none right on lake. Boat Landing is great, boats can be pulled up on shore and left there safely. We’ve also had sites 9,10 and 11 which are larger and closer to lake but not on it. There are 2 distinct loops in campground; this one is less crowded. Nice nature trail adjacent. Several bars and super clubs on lake. Fun sandbar to party on.
